I've been watching a bit of MTV lately and can't believe my eyes! It is no freaking wonder why there are so many pregnant teens, stds, abortions, moms leaving kids, moms having kids with different dads, people being raped, kids having sex younger and younger, etc. Just look at the music these days! It sickens me...it really does. These are just a few of the videos I've seen---take a look at these and tell me if they are a bad influence on todays kids and teens..

Does that not gross you out? Whatever happened to love songs? Like true love songs--what happened to them? I've heard songs called "Ridin' Dirty" and "Humps" and I even heard one called "S.E.X."! These songs and the people singing them are flushing our future down the drain if you ask me...but what do you think?

I think if children are brought up with good values and role models, it doesn't matter what they are exposed to in the media. They will have the knowledge and intelligence to filter out inappropriate behavior and morals.

Censorship is not the answer. You have to be inoculated to truly fight off a disease effectively.

Make the rules of conduct and etiquette clearly, and explain the reasons associated with them. I think this will certainly overcome a few trashy videos and people.

Good luck!

The problem isn't the videos. Society is evolving for better or worse but parents aren't evolving with it. Why parents still think they can hide their children from sex, drugs, violence, etc is beyond me. Talk to you kids, educate them to make proper decisions. This stuff is out there and there is nothing you can do about it. What exactly is not letting them watch the videos going to solve? The same content can be found in most commercials on network tv at noon. Watch a soap opera lately? These videos are tame in comparison. Quit trying to put blinders on the children and try talking to them instead. By the way, I'm a 28 year old father of a two year old son...and someday it will be my son teaching your child "dirty" words (because for some reason "****" is worse then "poop") on the playground.

I have to agree to what you're saying about music videos and lyrics in today's society. It's ridiculous if you want my honest opinion. I try not to watch too many music videos because of its content, but I still enjoy some of the songs, just not so much the ones that have to do with sex and drugs and all that nonsense. I think MTV and VH1 should really think about what they are putting onto the screens of millions of viewers and realize that its not 15-20 some year olds watching-- its 8, 9 and 10 year olds and the younger generation of our society.

Okay, whoever mentioned R&B solely--as if no other genre of music can be sexually explicit (like Rock and Pop)--the videos/songs mentioned were not even R&B, but Hip Hop & Rap. Secondly, R&B stands for Rhythm and Blues. I'd appreciate it if people wouldnt overgeneralize a whole genre based on a few songs they've heard. Now, with that being said, I do agree with the inital topic. Now, there we're raunchy songs decades ago too of course, but they were so much more subliminal.

I totally agree 100%. The simplest thing like the radio is teaching these kids and teens many many things that they shouldn't be doing. It drove me insane a few days ago. Flipping through channels I stopped and watched the Teen Choice Awards. The girl singing that song "promiscuous" performed it and then went to accept her award and laughingly reminded teens to always use a condom. I agree these songs are horrible and someone needs to do something about the things allowed on tv and radio these days.

Yes this world has come to not caring much,But it all starts at home. You can still raise good Innocent kids.No cable is one way. Although regular TV has bad stuff, you must be able to teach your child right from wrong. And let them know not to follow this stuff it is disrespectful for them self's.You must have great communication with your child and explain as much as possible so they won't feel the need to go out and experience before their time.Ask and answer every question possible.

I'm a teen mom but mtv certainly wasn't my influence. I hate mtv, and I don't like music videos. I do know though that alot of other girls fall for that crap.

Riding dirty is about transporting drugs.

I don't like R&B, so I don't listen to it. I suggest you do the same and let the imbeciles weed themselves and their offspring out of the gene pool. Anyone that is so influenced by music deserves it.

LOL.....songs aren't the problem! the problem always was, is and will be PARENTING! how we are raised has more to do with our behavior than any other single influence!
want better kids, offer them better, informed PARENTING.
