How will it affect the American people? Gas is already high and we're losing good men and women everday. I really don't understand why our troops are there anyway. This is a serious question. Help me understand whats going on.

Iraq would become like Cambodia of the 70's.

Iraq could split into two nations (in the short term like Vietnam did). A Sunni nation and a Shiite nation.

There would be civil war and a broadened proxy war.

Israel would receive continuous oil supplies from Northern Iraq because the Mossad would protect those pipelines from the insurgents.

Through better communication and travel we are all effected. Only a couple of years ago we didn't even have this answer website. American people will be effected because it will give positive reinforcement to our enemies. Terrorists will think now that we will be either willing to negosiate or will simply give in. That is why many of the countries we laugh at like Russia, Egypt, most of Africa are in the state they are in. Gas will probably go up to $90 a barrel but purly on speculation of investors. Those that take over Iraq will not be kind and continue the violence that that region seems doomed to. Eventually they will sell oil to us because everyone needs money or should I say wants it. The troops right now are fighting extremenists who believe the western world wants to change everything. Much like why the South fought in the American Civil War. People are afraid of change and willing to fight to hold onto a dying belief. Our troops are all voluntary and though I morn their loss they should know the conciquences of joining. What you think you are going to go in the army get all the benifits and choose what you want to do?!?!? I believe they are brave and noble in their fight and helping Iraq acheive what everyone wants; freedom. The UN has no power to punish any one and for the past several years the U.S. has been the only force to that organasion. People will say that the Iraqies have less electricity or water but that is due to the very people who say they are fighting for them. They destry any project they can either before it starts, during or after. It is hard to work under those condisions. Adolf Hitler created prosperity for Germany and took them out of the Great Depression. Does this mean he should have stayed in control? No. Our troops are there to disposs of a cruel dictator who should have been taken out of power a long time ago and rebuild the nation of Iraq and the government. This is not something that is a quick fix. Even the United States didn't get it right the first time. See the Articles of confederation.

The Sunnis would continue the civil war, because the current government effectively cuts them (their 3rd of the country or "provinces") out of the oil revenue. Genocide would likely ensue. A million or more could very well die over a short period.

I hope that continued presence of the US forces will allow the democratic government to share properly with the Sunnis and forgive them for being oppressors under the regime of Saddam. In this way, we need to wait and see if the constitution is changed into a less oppressive document.

Study more, high gas prices are not the reason we are in war, we buy our oil almost entirely from Canada. Looking for someone to blame for high oil price look to our northern ally.
If we leave, the terrorist will overtake the country almost immediately, & all the deaths will have been in vain. We must give the Iraqi goverment a little more time to get control or until civil war is declared. God bless our troops!

the message we would send it that we don't see things through and we aren't reliable and trustworthy...remember what george sr. did and clinton....thats why we lost a lot of respect worldwide....the reason we are there is because of 9/11, i know, i know the general feeling is that hussein was not a part of it but do a little research there are tons of documents and letters that are easy to access online where saddam offered asylum to bin laden on numerous occasions and has offered and given support to him, if thats not working together i don't know what is....bottom line until the people of the countries ruled by these radical, extremist terrorists are not given the choice of democracy they will forever live under their thumbs, being tortured butchered and down trodden...democracy is the only political view that offers the people the choice to speak and think freely...consider what happened to those who spoke out against saddam...they, their families, their children all tortured, raped, maimed and killed. what happpens in our country when someone speaks their mind, even going so far as to threaten or ridicule our president....no thugs come to their home inthe middle of the night and rapes his wife and daughters...no he can yell his hatred for our president from the hill tops and nothing....that is democracy at its best, respect at it worst but still we have that. and when all the countries or at least the majority but especially those run by terrorist extremists become democracies then the people begin to rule and as a rule most people including muslims do not want what the extremists in power want...they want peace. its like taking down a bully at school who has terrorized the school yard, once someone stands up to him they may get hit but it empowers those who wouldn't stand up before to do so. it will take time in iraq, they have been cowered for centuries by one dictator or another and that is difficult to remove from generations. in the long run if the nations run by terrorists are freed then the people will feel empowerd and if they are empowered and democracy reigns the 'schoolyard (the world) will be a much safer place. its has always been that a few will die to make many free, a sad but necessary truth.

The origanal campaign was seriously flawed... instead of targeting a few, Bush had troops fighting an all out war in which both our soldiers and many more iraqi innocents were dying. If we left now, though, we would leave behind us chaos and disaster. Thats not fair to the Iraqis, beucase we messed up thier country even more and we can't just leave it worse than we found it. Recent surveys from my paper show that a lot of iraqis have less electricity and fresh water than before the war.

its sad that our boys and girls have to die to finish what Bush started, but its gott to be that way.

It would give the Iraq people the chance to solve their problems. With our troops there it gives them something to dislike we would not like it if some group of people came into our home and made us do things for them like we would be there slaves. Yet this is just what we are doing there.

It would increase their life expectancy. It's all about the oil. Would you cop a premium at the petrol pump or use a more fuel efficient method of transport if it would hasten your country-men's return home?
