I'm only 17 and I've been loosing my hair. Every time I brush it a ton comes out and this is not normal. I only have like half the amount I had at the beginning of this summer. What is wrong with me? Is it stress or some kind of nutritional deficiency? Please help.

That was going to be my first question is what is your diet like? Most teens do not eat a proper diet. Stress can cause this but usually at 17 unless a parent just died and you now are responsible for the other kids or you are nervouse about going away to college or something I doubt if you have the kind of stress that causes hair to fall out. The only other thing is have you been doing things to your hair like dying it lightening it stressing out your hair with all kinds of changes in hair products?

It's normal to loose up to 100 strands of hair per day.

Anything more than that can mean poor diet or stress.

It may be normal. you will lose some when you brush. If your brushing right after a bath or shower, the hair is more likely to break and come out in your brush.

Have you gone through any kind of stress in the past couple months or have you been taking any medication including birth control pills? It sounds like telogen effluvim, which can happen all of a sudden.

It is hard to say without know exactly how much hair you are loosing. Truly, a doctor appointment would be a good idea if you are concerned. Your pediatrician or family doctor, if unable to help, can probably refer you to someone with expertise in this area.

Good luck!

Know what? It could be a vitamin deficiency (that's what causes most of my problems), or it could be a hormone thing. Hey, I'm a guy, but my mom loses lots of hair at certian times in the year. But it grows back.

I dunno. If it's not a hormone thing, then try the supplement I take to fix my problems. http://www.truehope.com
