I don't see your dog's age .... is it a puppy or a grown dog? Are you sure that there are no health issues? If it's a puppy, he needs to learn and YOU need to teach him. Set a schedule and take him out every hour or so .... don't walk him around and play, this is potty-time! Stand in one place quietly and wait ... and wait, wait, wait if you need to. After he goes, then praise him, play, walk, whatever. Don't let him wander and sniff - that's too distracting.

If you have an adult doing peeing in the house, it's either a health or control problem. Unfortunately, it doesn't sound like you have the dedication to train consistently, but that would be the only solution. Training him will gain respect.

Either way, you will need the crate for when you can't keep your eyes on him. Ditch the pee-pads, use only an enzyme cleaner (like GET SERIOUS) and work, work, work. Time now pays in the long run, or else go ahead place the dog with someone who is willing to put in the time before his bad habits get any worse.

Is it a dog or a puppy? Potty training a dog/puppy takes time and patience. You are the teacher/trainer. You need to take him out often to potty. Use a key word like go "potty" or something. Do you now if he is going potty when you let him out? Or is he just going out and sniffing? I always stood outside with my dog when he was a puppy to make sure he was taking care of business and not playing. Make sure to praise him when he does go outside. If you think it's a habit that he goes outside then goes inside, then I would consider a crate.
When he's done outside put him in the crate as soon as he comes in. Otherwise I would consider putting him on a leash while in the house. That would mean you holding the leash where ever you go in the house to keep your eyes on him all of the time. Puppies usually sneak off to go potty in the house. If he's on a leash he can't sneak off. Also save your money and use newspapers and VINEGAR to clean up the mess. Vinegar neutralizes the smell of pee.

First of all, you should have a pet if you give up on something as simple as potty training. If you think this is frustrating what will happen in the future. If pets are in general disposable to you, please DO NOT get a dog! Or a cat, or any breathing mammal. If you hadn't put that remark about getting rid of it if YOU can't POTTY TRAIN YOUR DOG! I probably would have helped you, just one tip, realize it's something YOU are not doing, or doing wrong, not the puppy! He actually doesn't know any better. Oh yeah, and a question for you...would you get rid of your son, if he kept wetting the bed? Please don't answer that, I don't really care. I do hope that puppy gets an owner that is patient, and realizes the puppy NEEDS to be taught what to do, just as you did when you were a child.

What we did with our dog was every time she went to the bathroom on the floor was we pointed her nose at the spot and told her no. Then we would take her outside and tie her leash to a fence pole or something sturdy then we would go back inside and clean up the mess. Then we would bring her back inside.
When she goes to the bathroom outside praise her and love her to death. That way she would rather go outside than inside.

Take him outside every 15 to 20 minutes and praise and treat heavily when he goes outside. He needs to know that going outside is a positive experience for him. Also, make sure that he's healthy.

Put him right back in the crate. Take him out to go potty and put him back in till he learns to hold it and only go outside.
