i would never keep my cats in - its cruel not to give an animal the freedom to go where it wants - you dont own them.
and yes the ham was fresh!!

Hi
Yes she will be absolutely fine.
This used to happen to ours all the time when she was a kitten. She used to be starving (lots of mewing!) and cross with us - we were ignored!
The worst thing she did was manage to get into the drain systems underneath the road outside our house.
We had to call the fire brigade (so it's not all bad :) but it was mighty embarassing as they came with blue lights flashing and everyone came outside - we'd only lived here for a short time and didn't know anyone yet!
She was very skittish after that for a while.
Hopefully she won't be doing that again in a hurry!

Hi she probably is terrified as she probably hasnt been locked away before. As for not keeping you cats in, i dont think its cruel as my cat went missing for a week and when he come back he was thin as a rake and all his claws were blunt and he had a limp ever since ive never seen him eat so much or cry, also the same cat has got a split in his ear. Then the first cat i had came home with a pellet in his side and went missing two days later.Never to be seen again. At least in the house you know they are safe and have access to all the food they want and water. and you can always give them toys to play with so they dont get board.
You may have to wait for your cat to calm down for a few days. If she hasnt take her to the vets as she could be in pain,

"would never keep my cats in - its cruel not to give an animal the freedom to go where it wants - you dont own them."
That is SO WRONG! You do own them, technically, and you are responsible for them. What if your neighbour did not like the idea of your cat in his barn, and shot her dead, instead of letting her out?
Anyway, I think the cat will come back to her usual ways.
Also, cats can take up to 3 days of starvation without any negative physical effects - so if that happens again, you need not be bothered with her starving - actually, some researchers encourage giving food to cats every other day (sufficient for two days, of course), rather than constantly, as that is closer to their natural way of life...

was it by accident.. lost one of mine once, a week later a neighbour said he accidentally locked it in the shed? The cat may just be a bit frightened, as you fed him/her through the door, perhaps they think you locked them in? Patience and some treats will help things back to normal..

I would keep her inside for awhile, and give her some special attention. She is probably freaked out by her experience, and needs time to recover. Cats are pretty eccentric in my experience, and the miaowing is just telling you all about what she went through - again and again!

I would have thought so. Our cat was a stray (well she adopted us) and i was paronoid she would stray again. I put butter on her paws. Yes old wives tale but made me feel better. It leaves the scent behind, plus they love licking it off afterwards! Have you got you cat microchipped? Definatly worth doing!

Just give her time, she might be just stressed about being locked in all night without anything familiar to her. just give her lots of cuddles and reassurance and she should bounce back to her normal, happy self.

She'll be fine. Cats always act that way when they were not happy with the situation that they were in.
