I would use Dawn dish liquid - the pH level is safe and it is designed to remove grease and oil. Also, please take your kitty to a vet to have it checked out in case it ingested some!

There is great danger to her health because petrochemical compounds are toxic to cats. Take her to a vet, because they have non-allergic and safe cleaning compounds. DONT attempt to bath the cat; the oil will spread through the water and go onto more fur, making the mess worse. Dont under any circumstances whatever try to remove the oil with a solvent- it will kill your cat. Try and find where the oil came from, and cover it with sand or catlitter to soak it up. Good luck.

I know that when ducks get in oil spills they clean them with dawn dish soap, I wouldn't think your cat would enjoy this very much. you should call a vet/emergency pet hospital and ask if the oil poses a danger to your cat and ask them what you can do. They would be more reliable than people here most likely

Dawn should work fine, as the other user suggested. Do not leave her to lick off her own oil or she could get sick if it is the wrong kind of oil. Clean her up immediately and keep an eye on her. I would be concerned that she might be climbing up into someone's car engine compartment. She could die from that, so see if you can stop her from doing it.

Depending on the type of oil depends on the effect it will have on the cat. Cats are always cleaning themselves so get it off quickly with lots of cat shampoo or shave the cat and keep it in for awhile. or take it to the vets and they will sort the problem out for you.

I'm afraid she needs veterinary treatment urgently. If she has inhled any (falling into a barrel) or licked any off she needs urgent treatment as it burns the mucous membranes and eyes.
She will also need washing several times with detergent and then drying thoroughly. If you have a shower you can maintain the constant water temp but your bathroom will be in a state by the time she's made a fuss about being washed.

DAWN - Plain ole Dawn dish washing liquid. The regular blue. This is what they use on the animals in the oil spills. It is safe for the babies and cuts through the grease

don't use detergent not a good idea, and letting the cats lick it won't do them too much good either, what about trying a cheap marg ,rub it well into the fur then use a good cat shampoo to wash it off ,messy but i think it will work, don't think the cats will be too happy about it though!.

Please don't listen to people who tell you that the cat will clean herself. It is dangerous for her health to try to get it off of herself. I agree with the people who said to use Dawn or a good degreasing dish detergent.
