Brent F ~
In my opinion Floyd is ducking the better competition for the sake of holding on to his title and making as much money as possible. Carlos is a tough durable guy who deserves to make a little money now that he's at the end of his career, his best performances came against a very beat up and battle worn Gatti and a very arrogant and out of shape Juda. He's really not in the same class as Mayweather. Why wouldn't "Pretty Boy" fight against Antonio Margarito, who's been calling him out for over a year now? Why is everybody avoiding this kid? I think that Antonio would not only beat Floyd, but he'd be the first man to stop him. I think another tough match out there for him would be Mosley, Mosley looked tough in there against Vargars there were shades of the old Shane, speed and punching power. Would Mosley beat Mayweather? I'm not quite so sure, but it would be a entertaining bout and a dangerous one. Then you have De La Hoya whom I never really cared for as a fighter but I think that Oscar and Floyd would be a good, good fight. Super fight? Nope Del La Hoya is six years past his prime but never the less a dangerous fight for Floyd. Don't you miss the 80's when the very best were fighting the very best, besides the 50's and early 60's and the 80's were the best decades of professional boxing, now you have more boxers concerned with gathering as much hardware as they can for the most amount of money. It makes for a great business man but not a great FIGHTER. Brent F, I took the time out to answer your great question. I could have copied all kinds of articles about the subject at hand but, my thinking is you would like to hear other peoples opinions about it. If you read some of the post to the questions here in the boxing section, you'll notice that certain people copy word for word articles from magazines, News papers and the internet and pass them off as their own thoughts and I think that is totally against the point of you taking the time to ask a great question and wanting an original answer. It's just my opinion. Thanks Brent F.

Hey Brent F! I think that Mayweather Jr will outbox Baldomir in this bout and probably win a decision. Baldomir is a tough fighter and could give Mayweather Jr some problems but not enough to win. I would have preferred that he had fought someone like Sugar Shane Mosely as that would have been a much better fight.

JRockLC25 is exactly right. Margarito is nipping at the heels of greater boxers and hasn't done enough to gain Mayweathers attention. So no I dont think Jr. is ducking the best. Though 10 mil is nice to have I'm sure Jr. is still getting a ton (though I haven't seen the purse) for Baldo. And Jr. can always fight Margarito later. Whether Baldo will win however is anyones guess. But it will not be easy for Jr. as some think. And I seriously doubt he'll knock Tata out early (if at all) despite how fast and good of a technician he is.
I think something just as interesting to discuss is how overinflated Jr's ego is, even by normal boxing standards. I know any undefeated fighter is going to consider himself great, and rightly so, but I actually saw Jr. on "Quite Frankly" on ESPN2 a few weeks ago repeatedly saying that he's a better fighter than Sugar Ray Robinson ever was. lol. That's hiliarious. It shows how big his head is and how funny his face is going to be when he finally gets taken down and is laying on the canvas. Sugar Ray, a man who actually had some competition. (the fact that we're talking about Baldo, a guy who no one had even heard of 2 years ago just shows how little serious comp Jr. has). Sugar Ray, the best lb for lb fighter ever! Even Muhammad "I'm the greatest" Ali has admitted that he meant heavyweight and that Sugar Ray was the greatest of all time. I'll link the article below if you don't believe it. Joe Lewis and Sugar Ray Leonard agree. Hahaha, Jr's nuts. He's not even the best lb for lb today like most people laud him as, forget about all time. For today, that's Pacquiao.

Floyd Mayweather Jr. fights Carlos 'Tata' Baldomir, the WBC welterweight champion, coming off huge wins over Zab Judah and Arturo Gatti in both their back yards and you think Floyd is ducking the best possible competition? How is going after THE, #1 guy in a division in his third fight at that weight class called ducking top competition?
Mayweather is the current #1 contender and you are suggesting that he not fight THE champion, but instead fight another contender?
Mayweather fighting a legit welterweight, unlike small jr. welters at welterweight in Sharmba Mitchell and Zab Judah, is a test in itself. Baldomir, with a win, becomes 'Fighter of the Year' hands down...He has the chin, heart and pressure to make Mayweather work for the full fight and win...
Margarito, for what its worth, will have fought ONE round in 21-months! I don’t see how Mayweather is ducking a #2 ranked contender to fight THE champion. That simply doesn't make sense. Margarito is fighting yet another soft opponent in December. How he gets away with calling out the elite, while he picks his nose is puzzling to say the least.

Baldomir does have a good danger of thrashing Mayweather. Floyd is already finding previous Baldomir to a achieveable experience with De la Hoya next spring. De la Hoya is thinking retirement, and Baldomir is nearing the top of his profession besides, so if Floyd is extremely as good as he thinks he's, he might desire to stop working from Margarito.

jr is by far the best fighter in the lower weight classes or within15 pounds in either direction margarito aint no money in it only reason he gonna beat up baldomir is because he is making some noise by beating to washed up hasbeens that makes him look interesting by the third round all that "toughness" will be a thing of the past because a tactical fighter aint gonna fight to his strong points he will jab move hook move go to the body move and then we will see who is tough
