White vinegar is supposed to work. Or you can buy herbal remedies from the chemist.

Organic Tea Trea Essential Oil. Rub a little onto your finger tips and massage into scalp of affected person. 4 times on day 1, 3 on day 2, 2 on day 3 and then every day for two weeks. It kills the lice as they hatch and prevents them reinfesting - you can use more often in the scalp is at all itchy (sign that another lice has hatched). No harsh chemicals of danger of suffocation during the night. Use a fine, flat toothed nit comb to try and remove nits from the hair shaft.

i was at my wits end with this problem, after no sucess an using everything available in the chemist , the only thing that worked was to apply hair conditioner every day and comb the lice and eggs out with the fine tooth comb. takes about a week

errrr - other than the wet combing method and using tea tree oil in the hair to repel any future invaders then there really isnt one. They dont like the smell. Using tea tree shampoo and conditioner helps too.
I guess you could just sit there an pick em out *shudder*, once the little pests are there its a nightmare.

Not sure if you get organic conditioner, hmm maybe Organics, is that just a name or is it really organic?? Anyway conditioner and a lice comb is the best way as it removes the eggs and the little buggers!!

weve put 4 kids thru school, well, i use the term loosley as it was a nit breeding factory. we tried it all, end result- fran didnt want to go to school, her head was raw, the creams lotions and sprays froom the doctor were useless...
and then we heard jonathon ross on a chat show... and we tried it..oh joy and bliss. but...its not an accepted practice, we also have four wolfhound lurchers, and five cats, and we use FRONTLINE to keep their bugs at bay, and JR used it...on his kids, so we spray fran twice a year, once at christmas, and once in september at the start of school...no nits. no combing, no screaming children, no sores, or irritation. but like i said, the doctor wouldnt approve, but hey, when youve tried everything else, you clutch at straws.and its a spray once and leave it on. (we cover frans eyes and nose and mouth) then just wash the hair normally the next day.

Tea tree oil is the herbal alternative, and should be used in strong solution, in conjunction with 2 X daily combing with a fine tooth comb (nit comb).

Isopropyl Alcohol 70% or higher. Kills the lice and unsticks the glue from the nits (eggs).
And its a lot cheaper than the Rid or Nix stuff.

chicken fat after you boil a chicken.
massage it into the hair & scalp. Let stay on for a few hours then use a flea comb to remove the lice and nits.
