I think the best way to lower cholesterol without prescribtion drugs consists of 3 components:Diet, excercise & switching from saturated to unsaturated oils....
Diet should aim at lowering calories in general, not just those derived from fat or cholesterol, bec. in the body, food substances may change from one to other according to the body needs.Low-fat foods are also helpful.
Excercise should include arobics, walking & jogging, which are the best sports for lowering fat & cholesterol, provided they are done regularly, at least 2-3 times a week.
Saturated oil is usually found in animal fat or hydrogenated plant oils, while unsaturated is found in clear plant oils which remain liquid at room temperature.

Proper diet, contolled eating habit and regular exercise has been the normal answer and to this has been added "pranayaam' and 'yogasana' by the Indian Yoga guru Swami Ramdeo, recently. The later are surely very effective in reducing weight and in bringing down chlorestrol level. One has to try even for 15 days and see the difference.

You can't, not legally. There are reasons that these things are available by prescription only. You don't know for certain which med is best for you. You have no idea of the proper dosage for you. You don't know how it could interact with anything that you are taking. You don't know if it's contraindicated for you. You can't judge the risks/rewards for yourself. You don't know if you're allergic to anything in it. As if that's not enough for you, try this on for size. There are people who have a legitimate medical need for stronger pain and other meds. Every time that you try to get them illegally or use them recreationally, you are making it that much more difficult for those of US who have these legitimate medical needs to get the help that WE need. One way or another, SEE YOUR DOCTOR.

Use Olive oil in place of all other fats. It has no bad cholesterol and helps to increase good cholesterol.
Skip the red meat and pork (it isn't really the other white meat)
Eat fish, chicken, veggies, and high fiber cereals (especially oat fiber). Try to add soy milk to your diet (it takes time to adapt to the taste but its worth it.) I buy the "Soy Slender" products in the health food aisle because it has no added sugars. (has sucralose)
EXERCISE!!!!!!!!
All of the above are proved and common sense ways to achieve the goal.
There are other things you could try like, a glass a day of red wine, vitamin B loading, Chelation, massage, rehki etc..
My mother swears by acupuncture. (worth a try maybe)
Good Luck!!!!!!

Stop eating animal products! Or eat them in very small quantity.
Some studies claim oats (eg. cheerios) and orange juice helps to lower blood cholesterol.
