I would get at least two professional opinions first, one from your regular doctor and one from someone called an orthoticist who specializes in prosthetics, medical equipment, braces, etc. Don't just go buy one on your own. It depends a lot on the cause of the back ache, and if it is something like a ruptured disc, then yes, a brace could end up hurting you.

It depends on why you have back aches. Alot of Chiropractic clinics will evaluate you for free. I would seek out 2 or 3 and have this done and see what they say. You can do damage if you are bracing your back and that part of your back is not the problem. It is like putting a band aid on a broken arm. Not much help and could potentially make it worse because you are not helping the area that needs help.

They have back support belts that you can but at most pharmacies and places where you buy exercise equipment. Weight lifters wear them mostly but I have seen gardeners and people who work in construction wear them also. They help to support the back when you have to do a lot of lifting or bending over. This might be one way you could go if you experience alot of back pain.

I would instead recommend exercises to strengthen the muscles in your back. As it turns out, lifting with only the legs is not always the best way.

Physiotherapy exercises would be more beneficial aimed at strengthening abdominal muscles that support the back.
