Tip the head forward, apply pressure. The biggest problem with tipping the head back is the blood in the stomach and frequently causes vomiting. Choking is not really an issue, unless the patient is lying supine on the ground and pooling blood in the back of the airway could cause an issue. If you can walk around, and just have a bloody nose, tip the head forward. If you do it back, then you need to be nice enough to clean up the mess if you vomit, I see it way to many times in the ambulance.

Blood in the stomach won't kill you or anything but it may cause nausea. Tipping the head forward allows the blood to pool and gives you some additional pressure to aid clotting.
Most efficient way to stop a minor nosebleed: Sit down if possible, leaning slightly forward. Pinch nostrils TIGHTLY for about 5-7 minutes, then cautiously release. Reapply pressure if bleeding resumes. A coldpack on the back of the neck seems to help, also.

Hi never never never tip your head back always stay up straight or point your head down to the floor. Dont believe what you see on the TV shows as half the time its wrong. The best thing to do is apply pressure to either side of your nose. I suffer loads with nose bleeds so i know what im on about. The best think i find that stops them is going to a sink and keep putting cold water on you nose. Once when i was younger i had a nose bleed and it wouldnt stop and my teacher, phoned my mum to come and pick me up, and the teacher sat me in the reception area and told me to tilt my head back, i knew it was wrong to do that but she shouted at me so i had to do it, my mam went mad when she saw me sat there with my head tilted, she played hell with the teacher. The next day i had the worse stomach ache ever and when i was sick i had loads of blood in the bile. So always let the blood flow out of the body not into the body.

Better to sit quietly with the head forward to avoid swallowing the blood. Gently pinch the bridge of the nose until the bleeding is under control

If it fairly is been going for a pair of days, you may would desire to establish record, just to verify there is not any longer something incorrect with nerves up there. besides... stick to tension by ability of putting your thumb and index finger on the decrease 0.5 of the nostril, squeezing the nostrils at the same time. Finger Placement could be only below the cartilage with your finger information fairly touching the boney component of your face. save your head point or fairly bent forward as you drain the blood onto a tissue. do no longer lean your head returned via fact the blood will bypass down into your abdomen and would reason nausea/vomiting. carry this place for ten minutes. if your nostril continues to be bleeding proceed to hold for yet another ten minutes. If bleeding persist, seek for scientific interest :) Oh and additionally, a chilly compress on your nostril can sluggish the bleeding.

when you have nose bleed it is best to tip your head forward, and pinch just above the soft part of nose for at least 10 minutes. if it does not stop think about going to a and e. do not blow or pick after wards this allow the clot to stay put.
the reason why you put your head forward is to stop swallowing blood that will make you vomit

Pinch the soft tissue at the bridge of the nose and tip your head back. Stay still for at least 15 minutes.

I used to suffer with a lot of nosebleeds as a child and spent a lot of time in hospital because of them. It is important to tilt the head slightly forward, this prevents blood from going down your throat into the stomach, as this can cause choking.
A lot of people think that you should tilt the head back, but that is wrong and TV programmes should ensure they use the correct methods to educate its viewers.

Tipping it forward will help create the blood cloth which stops it. Holding something cold gently against the bridge of your nose helps too.
