What the hell are English clothes? What is there a uniform that all people in England must where. No there isn't, cos England is a free country, so people can wear what the hell they want and they should wear what they want without any prejudices. Maybe they were brought up to wear these types of clothing. They can't help it.

It's not a nightdress, if I am correctly informed it is part of their culture and traditions. Might have the wrong people in mind but I don't think woman are allowed to show their faces in public for something to do with attracting men or something, not sure.
And who cares what they wear, as long as they don't care what you wear you shouldn't care. Even isf they do then you shouldn't care anyway, it's their choice to follow tradition just like you won't you wear what you want.

"Tunic", honey, "tunic." Not nightdress. Djellaba, if you want the transliteration. Next time you come to Spain for your holidays (and I'm sure it's either here or Blackpool, right?), I hope we have the horrible heatwave we had this year...then you may understand why desert cultures prefer loose, flowing garments. Besides, under them you can wear anything you want to stay warm in the rotten British weather!

How thick can you be-the ignorant people who answered "Englishman". Most off whom need to learn English grammar before critisicing! Of course he knows why Muslims wear nighties!-When I lived in Egypt over 50 years ago my husband worked in the filthy villages, eradicating mosquitoes, and was told the reason they wore the gallaber was that Allah would come again, born to a man, so this strange mode of dress would catch Him when He dropped!!

First of all, don't be so narrow minded. If you grew up a certain way and were told to wear a certain type of clothes, you'd continue wearing them, right? They wear what their religion calls for. Who cares? At least they're clothed and not naked, right?

what, like bowler hats? Most clothes are made abroad nowadays, I think you'll find. You're probably wearing some kind of foreign fabric yourself right now..... Also, when you go abroad (to Malaga, presumably), do you attire yourself accordingly? Come to think of it, you've probably never gone further than the end of your street.

Interesting question. the men wear thobe and gutra (or abaya for women) in the middle east because its so hot over there, and the outfit is best for the heat. Westerners in the middle east do not wear thobe and gutra although they do have some respect by not wearing bikinis to walk down the street in. So, if we don't wear their dress code over there, why should they wear our dress code in England?
