I haven't noticed any profound results on the scale or in the mirror, but I feel stronger, have more energy, and my blood pressure and cholesterol have shone significant improvement.
Oh, and the sex is better. :D
Hopefully we can both hang in there.

Cardio 5 days a week and weight lifting 3 times a week. Find 2 or three cardio work outs to avoid boredom. Depending on the shape you are in determines how long it will take to reach the level of fitness you can achieve.Generally, I believe 6months to a year. I hope you find what you are looking for.

I have had spectacular results in 3 months. I got tired of making excuses about not being in shape and not getting the results I wanted so I started to focus more on developing a routine of two a day workouts monday-friday and running on weekends. I'm definitely not the norm, but it came very easy for me because I have tremendous ability to focus on the task at hand. Lots of water and small numerous meals throughout the day are essential. Water is the key for me. The more water I drink the better I feel. Good luck.

Deeno,
As a wellness coach, I recommend starting with a body cleansing program to remove the impurities from your body. In less then ten days you will safely and naturally lose 7-10 lbs and feel awesome doing it.
Your energy will shoot through the roof and you will be ready to tackle any exercise program. I recommend "body for life". This 84 day program produces results although there are many to choose from.
If you want more information on body cleansing let me know, I will help to get you on the right track!

I lost 30 lbs in 4 months using the Body for Life program. You have to eat a lot, but it works wonders.

4 months is enough to see results, but "great" is very subjective. In 4 months you can lose as much as 40 pounds, and gain as much as 5 pounds of muscle, but most of the time the results are significantly less.
