Some stomp their feet at the notion that our Founding Fathers were Christians...they tell us that they were no where near Christians..

until we talk about slavery from that time..

Suddenly the Founders are Right-Wing Christians
who enslaved the Africans and allowed this crime to go on legally from 1776-1865...some have even gone as far as calling John Brown a liberal hero.

Which is it?

my guess they'll chose both

Our founding fathers werent christians. This is the dumbest thing anyone could ever say about the foundation of this country. Our country was not founded on religious freedom. If it was there would be no Rhode Island or Pennsylvania. Our countrys founding on paper is the greatest idea that never worked. The entire foundation of our country is a lie. There has always been a form of slavery in this country whether it be blacks hundreds of years ago, irish and italians in the early 20th century or the hispanics and poor now. This country is all about using others to get ahead.Of course they allowed slavery to go on because it benefitted them.

Some were Christians, some were deists, some were other. Jefferson and Madison were very vocal about separation of church and state. That's why the Constitution, today, makes no mention of any gods or any religion, other than to say that there should be no religious test for a government postition nor should there be any laws concerning religion made by government.

Most of the founding fathers were deists. I think the important thing to remember in all of this is that (and I'm not saying this justifies anything) slavery was an accepted practice at that time all over the world.

Well, what is wrong with the Founding Fathers being christians? One must also remember the approach to religion by the Founding Fathers. It is fortunate for them to recognize the need to keep religion and government separate. If we do not, then they will corrupt one another.

The people directly responsible for founding the country were not christian. The people directly responsible for slavery were christian. I hope that clears everything up!
