I agree with everything people answerd above me, They can be alot of fun if you have the time to enjoy them and handle them, if its just to put them in a cage and throw away the key. Then u should not conider buying a parrot.

A parrot is a great pet for someone who has done some research and knows what they are getting into and what to expect.
A parrot is not for the person who purchases one on a whim or simply because the color of the bird coordinates with the jungle theme and the color of the room!
A parrot is not a domesticated animal, so don't expect them to react to situations like a dog or a cat. The don't respond to punishment or discipline. They are highly intelligent creatures with a child like attitude. They do what they want when they want!
They are noisy (They don't care if it is Sunday am and you want to sleep late.) They are messy. (they toss their food on the floor and they poop on your new blouse). They are expensive to feed. Their toys cost an arm and a leg and they can destroy them in minutes. An Avian vet charges much more than a vet who treats domestic animal. Parrots are a lifetime responsibility!
If you are aware of a parrots needs and are willing to take on the huge responsibility of caring for them, you might just be a person who can be owned by a parrot. If you are that person, they are a wonderful companion who will give you years of love, laughter and joy.
My first bird was a budgie. I was 6 years old and there has never been a time in the last 46 years when I was birdless.

I don't concider my Parrots being a lot of work, maybe when I had my Aviary and we had over 200 birds it was a full time job. I now only have 5 and it is no different then having 5 two year olds running around(except you can put these in a cage when they are on your last nerve)
I can't imagin my life without my Parrots, I never am lonely nor bored. But to be a Parrot owner you do need to be educated as to their needs, they can be costly to own, and you may find yourself doing damage control in your home if you do not supervise them.

It depends upon what you're looking for. Parrots are intelligent and need to socialize. If they don't get to do that, they can develop psychological problems. They also live 80 years or so, so your parrot is likely to outlive you. Getting a parrot is a lifetime commitment, so keep that in mind.

Birds, in general, are a lot of work.. messy and require attention because they are intelligent they are easily bored so if you are not home alot DO NOT get a bird of any kind...
parrots are even more so than the smaller birds plus require bigger cages and are more expensive.. you must allow your bird frequent time out of the cage and interact with it alot..
I wouldnt reccommend birds of any kind to a first time pet owner..

Yes, for the right person. They take allot of care, and need to have constant attention. Do allot of research, before you consider it. So u know what u are getting into. If u are comfortable with the amount of work then Go for It! I have grown up with 2 large birds, and they are great!

If you're a bird person. If you do get one, make sure you get it as young as you can. You don't want a fully grown bird that could be mean. If it grows up with you it will be the sweetest pet.
