my Dad is on an anti-depressant called Profanil which I don't think is from this country. I'm really worried because his behavior has changed radically and I think his life could be in danger. Can anyone that speaks German translate this text for me... it's the only thing I can find on this drug and the internet translations have failed so far to give me a clue. PLEASE HELP if you can! thank you

It's Dutch. It reads:

According to other studies, it is generally not the therapy but the personality of the patient which influences the outcome. For example, a comparative study of cognitive behaviour therapy, interpersonal therapy and the administration of imipramine, among others known as Profanil or a placebo, has shown that the test persons who were extraordinary critical towards themselves and who were perfectionists, had consistently worse results than those who weren't.

Apparently the anti-depressant your father is taking is a placebo, i.e. a 'drug' which is given to a patient who is not actually ill, just to make him believe that he is getting a treatment, whereas he is in fact not taking any real medication. Your father is not in danger because of the anti-depressant, but if his depression is not passing, or getting worse, he should consider getting a second opinion. Perhaps another doctor may recognize his problem and give him proper treatment.

The text is not German but Dutch.

Roughly it says;

According to other studies it is not the therapy but the personality of the patient that has an influence on the outcome. Similar studies of Cognitive therapy, interpersonal therapies and giving imipramine, known as Profanil or a placebo, showed that the tested persons who were extremely critical about themselves and were perfectionist had a consistent worse result than persons who didn't had that personality.

So basically it can has more effect on persons who already had a critical attitude and perfectionists.
But I find it strange that they don't give you a English version.

Maybe a helpfull adress;

It is Dutch
here is a translation from a translation website; sorry its not great but it will give you the gist.

here is the translation....
I would suggest talking to your dads doctor if you have concerns.

According to other one studies it generally not the therapy, but the
individuality of the patient is who influences the outcome. Thus a comparing study of cognitive behaviour therapy, interpersoonlijke
therapy and toediening of imipramine, have among other things confessed as Profanil or, expelled that the test persons who stood extraordinarily critical compared with itself and perfectionist were
it consistently more badly did a placebo than those who that was not.

Listen guys, I realize this is probably not the place for this.... but how can you NOT SEE that the text is not in GERMAN, I mean it is so OBVIOUS!

Sorry, had to let it out. I am so happy that you helped that person with the translation. And you, asker, I hope everything is fine with your father. You must have had a hard time.

As others have already said, it's Dutch.
I was going to do the translation for you, but then I saw that Remco v. did an excellent job, so it's no use doing it again.
