Laxatives
Stimulant laxatives such as Ex-Lax and Correctol are the most common laxatives used by someone with an eating disorder. Laxatives have little or no effect on reducing weight because by the time they work, the calories have already been absorbed. The person usually feels like they have lost weight because of the amount of fluid that is lost. That feeling is only temporary because the body will start to retain water within a 48 to 72 hour period. This usually leaves the person feeling bloated and fearing they are gaining weight. This is usually what leads to repeated use of these products. Laxative abuse can cause bloody diarrhea, electrolyte imbalances and dehydration. Many people find that after prolonged use they cannot move their bowels without them. The person may also experience constipation, severe abdominal pain, nausea and vomiting. Laxative abuse is very dangerous, can lead to permanent damage to the bowels, severe medical complications and even death.
Laxatives are not always used for the sole purpose of trying to rid the body of calories that have been consumed. Just like vomiting is used as a way for someone to release built up feelings and emotions, laxatives can also be used for the same reason. A person may also abuse laxatives as a way to harm themselves. The physical pain resulting from laxative abuse may be a reason that a person continues to use them. They may believe they deserve the pain or they may find that dealing with physical pain is easier then dealing with emotional pain.

Yes I suppose the weight of digested or undigested food and if you add up the nutrients your robbing your body of yeah i guess you could lose a little, however the cons far outweigh the pro's. Your body will become dependant on laxitives... you wont go until the you have taken a lax not to mention the havoc over use could cause on your digestive system. so to answer your question the weight you do use is at a cost much higher then any reasonable person would be willing to pay.

No, just no. That effect is addictive and soon that will go away, but you will already hooked so you have to start taking more, and more and more and more just trying to get that effect. It is an addictive habbit which can and will seriously damage your health. Laxative addiction is a type of bulimia, and trust me you will get addicted. Your digestive system will become lazy and you will end up needing to overdose on laxatives all the time just to go to the toilet every now and again. Excessive laxative use will lead to bad constipation if you are lucky, otherwise it could completely destroy your digestive system. Sound good? Plus you are not losing any extra calories, you are losing lots of liquid, nutrient and electrolytes which could lead to a whole heap of problems, just look it up. Heart attacks, irregular heart beat, paralysis, persistent vegetative state, seizures, cardiac arrest... I could go on. No laxatives are not good for weight loss. They are good for slow painful suicide.

laxatives clean the bowels, causing loss of waste material and fluids. excessive use of laxatives can lead to several problems including laxative dependency, dehydration, and malnutrition. so to answer your question, yes ABUSE of laxatives can cause weight loss. however, normal occasional use for relief of constipation will not help you lose any significant amount of weight.
