I didn't get my husband a gift when we got engaged either, but I think it's an awfully sweet idea to do so!! I don't think it's expected, and he certainly won't be expecting anything from you, but if you want to get him a sentimental item signifying your commitment to him at this stage in your relationship, I think it's highly appropriate and will be most welcome. You know him better than us though, what would he like? Does he wear jewelry, if so maybe a bracelet or chain or ring that you can engrave a special message in? What does he enjoy? If he's a golfer, maybe a nice set of clubs or a new nifty club (my dad just got a $500 driver). But I think it's an awfully sweet sentiment, and bless you for thinking of your guy that way! Best wishes for a wonderful marriage!!!

Aww... the first answer is very sweet, you should definitely do that.

I am thinking of getting a ring for my man... gold with a tiny diamond. My sis gave a ring to her fiance. But you don't have to; it's not tradition or expected.

I didn't get my husband anything when we became engaged. I did buy him a writing desk as a wedding present.

Generally nothing. But if you feel the need of giving him smth in return, you can give him a male ring with some words on inside part of the ring such as "I love you John" (ur bf's name).

Anything you know he likes. Doesn't have to be anything fancy. Who cares about tradition. Just do what would make him happy.

My fiance was happy with the movies, video games and booster packs I got him. He said couldn't have been better!

You apparently give up all reason and get afflicted with wedding fever.
No, you do not need to give a gift when you get engaged.

If you feel a need to give him something ask him what he would like. And then give it.
