I wash my hair every other day, unless it gets oily in a day. When I wash my hair I try it immediately with my blow dryer and then i use a ceramic flat iron to straighten my hair. If I dont use this then my hair is very frizzy and big! The problem is: when i finish straightening my hair, my hair stinks and it smells like burnt hair really. i have tried turning the heat down on the straightner on the lowest setting, but it still smells this way. i have even tried different products on my hair thats made for protecting your hair against the heat of flat irons, but these make my hair stink worse! i have even tried different brands of flat irons and they all do this! what can i do? anything? by the way i am a white female. i know different races have different types of hair and that makes a difference in answering my question! thanks for your help!

You are probably using a bad flatiron. I had this problem once, and it turned out that the flatiron had some burnt hair on it, which made my hair smell burnt! I got rid of that iron as soon as I discovered that problem, and now I have a brand new Sedu flatiron which never burns (or smells like it). It is fantastic, but a lot of money. Check it out along with other flatirons at http://www.folica.com/flat_irons.htm.

If you absolutely aren't interested in getting a new flariron, I suggest that you wash your hair with a really pretty smelling shampoo. Try any Pantene shampoo or Garnier Fructis shampoo, because they smell wonderful. Condition your hair as well with the above company's conditioners, because that will help ensure a lovely scent. When flatironing, take chunks of hair and spray hair mist on it (NOT A WHOLE LOT THOUGH!! Don't drench your hair, just lightly spray). Any pantene hair spray or dove hairspray will smell fab. That will help your flatironed hair smell better. However, the best thing to do in this situation is to spend the money on a super good flatiron. It really does make all the difference.

If it smells like your burning your hair then you are burning your hair. First thing I would try to use a good deep conditioner and leave it sit on your hair with plastic wrap around ur head for about 3-5 mins. For the friz try using friz fighting products that will seal in the moisture and help prevent it. You should stop using your straightner asap and if you can don't blow dry eaither. Your hair sounds really damaged and it could use a break from the heat. If you have curly or wavy hair just let it dry natural and put some styling products in to help set the curl or waves. Really you should not have any smell when you use a flat iron to straighten your hair so I would try to take a break from it for a while until your hair is in better condition.

Hi,
First off if you are still using a blow dryer? Do not blow dry up against the hair. Some people blow dry to close. Keep the blow dryer as far away from your hair as you can. Now if using both. After blow drying or using a flat iron spray some contitioner on your hair. That will keep your hair smelling better. You can even appy the contintioner before to help with the frizz. Hope you get a hair trim as well every 3 months. Not a cut. Just a trim. Hair will grow faster and prevent spit ends.
Good luck.

I know how difficult hair can be, but if your hair smells like burnt hair...then you are burning your hair. It will become really unhealthy and brittle over time and your problem with frizz will increase. Maybe you should try wearing your hair a little curly. I have the same type of hair you do...it only looks good straight with a LOT of effort. I put a curling gel in my hair, let it air dry for about 20 min while I'm getting ready (scrunching it with my hands the whole time) and then I scrunch it while I blow it dry for a few minutes on low heat. It save the health of my hair and the messy-curly look suits me well. I get compliments on my hair all the time. The damage is minimal this way (and my hair doesn't stink).

I know how it is to want to wear your hair a certain way...but work with what you were given.

I know that this problem often times is caused by the natural oils in your hair and how they react to your heat tool and styling tools. Since you are white, your hairr is much oiler and therefore requires more washing and good conditioning. Minimize the amount of products that you use i.e too much hair pray and products that contain alchohol. DO stay away from shampoos that are heavy on flowery sents, these sents mixed with your hairs natural oil and heat products may cause your hair to stink even more! If the problem persist or has been going on for a long time, please seek further help from a dermatologist. Hope this helped, God Bless!

DO NOT blow dry your hair!

I use a hair straightening perm (you can buy them where you buy hair coloring products), it is much easier on your hair. You will wake up with straight hair and will not have to process the heck out of it with blow dryers and flat irons.

Don't use the iron, you're frying your hair, no matter what the setting. As far as frizzy goes, there are over a hundred products that you can put on your hair to smooth out the frizz. Frizz-ease, anyone?

I dont' know...i have frizzy hair and I blow dry it and straighten it and it smells like shampoo. There's this product by Matrix that smells wonderful...you put it on before you dry your hair and it protects it from the heat. I use Pantene....it makes my hair soft.
