I want to buy fresh veggies and then I would like to steam them. How do I do that? For how long? I put them in boiling water, right?

An easy way is to put the veggies ina pan with 1/4 cup of boiling water, cover tightly , and put on low heat to simmer.

As for the time, it depends on the vegetable and on your taste.
For example:
Zuccini needs the least time: 10 minute for 1 cup
carrots needs about 20 minutes.

that's why when you steam mixed veggies, start with the solid ones like potatoes and carrots and add on it the fluffy ones like zuccini later.

Putting in boiling water is called "blanching" You and boil an inch of water in a pot place veggies in pot cover for 45 sec to a min and half, drain and place in an ice bath to stop the cooking process.

Do not over cook. really like thirty seconds is all you need for most veggies ( brussel sprouts take a good two to three min).

Once cool you can flash them in a pan with oil or butter to bring back to temp just before they are served.

putting them in boiling water would get you 'boiled veggies'

if you dont have a steamer, you could try getting a large sieve, putting the veggies in it and putting that over (not in) a pot of boiling water
