1 mans religion, is another mans diversion.
and i'm sure, some folks would have a tough time living without religion
they believe and no amount of denouncing it would make any difference.
it would go under-ground.
what's worse worshiping freely or hiding ur beliefs?
gotta live and let live, when it comes 2 religion.

Religion was not invented to curb hysteria or to satiate fears. It was not invented at all. It's evolved from other concepts and now is a full fledged replicator in its own right spreading from person to person like a virus. It has no objective purpose nor is it generally beneficial to the infected host.

We don't need religion anymore than we need the flu. It simply takes advantage of the way the mind works.

You are right - mainstream religion does not give us what we need.

There is a difference between being taught from the pulpit what you should believe or not believe and to learn for yourself. We were made with a need for spirituality but we also need to test out that spirituality and be sure that it comes from the true source. If one chooses to believe in the Bible, one needs to really look into it for themself and not just accept a religion that tells them what the Bible says -- In most cases, those teachings are NOT in agreement with the Bible.

One of the many reasons that some people are so against religion is that they see the hypocrisy in it. Some are only interested in the money that their parishoners give. Others are the reason that we have so many wars. If you look back into history, you would find that most wars, the Crusades for example, were fought because one religion was against another.

I believe that religion was invented for that reason, yes. But I still believe in God/dess. I know that there are plenty of wonderful people out there who are atheists who live ethical, fulfilling lives. I don't question out ability to use our hearts and minds independent of a belief in a Higher Power. But I still believe in one. Even if there is no God/dess it's not hurting me to believe in one. It gives me hope, strength, and courage. Maybe it's just a form of the placebo effect, but it makes me happy. Isn't that what matters most? Our true happiness?

I don't think we are alone in the universe in any capacity, either because there is no God/dess or because there is no life outside of our galaxy.

Our modern technology can only see so far into space, so it is possible there are other life forms out there. We all assume that life is only carbon-based but that might not be true for other creatures for all we know.

Blessings and Light!

This question isn't directed toward me, but I just wanted to say that I've been hoping to find God all my life, partly in order to partake of the opium of the masses, as Karl Marx says. People who have faith seem so secure in their existence and are better able to bear tribulations because they know heaven awaits them at the end. I've been looking for God, but he either doesn't exist or doesn't want to be found by me. So right now, I do use my own heart and mind, but I also feel something is missing.

Can you prove that Religion was invented? Where did you get this misconception?

Religion is established directly by God. Religion is like Law in our Society... Religion is Law of God.. Why we need Law? There are plenty of Books on that ...

God owns this Universe and many many such universes as described in Bhagavad Gita.. So he gives Law so that every one can live peacefully..

Law equally apply to weak and strong.. Its not that he who has more Strength or More money will do as they like..
Yes you may use your hearts and minds but there are many heartless and mindless people and most of them are atheists ...

But God is still the controller ..you may like it or not.. He will still provide for every one and punish you for your wrong deeds ...
It not that you wear the garb of some religion and do what ever you like... God punishes such people even more...

hahahahahahahaha! If we were the only sentient tool-using beings in the universe, wouldn't that actually point towards a Higher Power that made us special beings? I believe in gods and godesses, but none of them is Supreme. The essence of the universe did not create the universe. We cannot be alone in the universe.

I think you answered your question with your first question. Because we don't want to feel like we're alone. We don't want to think that we just "happened", it's better to think we were "created" with a purpose. If we just "happened", well then we're just spinning through this great big universe on our own with noone to intervene, noone to care what our fate is. It's better to think that there is someone watching over us, having a hand in our fate, and that when we die we'll have somewhere to go, rather than just become part of this big rock hurdling through space. ;)
