Recently, in the prees , a number of prominent muslims signed an open letter that imo was far from outright condemnation of the antics of islamist terrorists and their deeds. They expressed what I saw as sympathy with some of these things. It just will not do imo.

Once again we have trotted out the "Jewish" conspiracy theory of Jews controlling the press. Is Murdock a Jew. Is the BBC Jewish? As far as I know none of the main UK papers are owned or "controlled" by Jewish interests, so I would like whoever wrote such nonsense to prove this Jewish connection. It is rubbish!

I have never seen any moderate muslim mullah or leader or member of the "Muslim Parliament" get up in front of a microphone without being asked to do so and outrightly condemn the suicide bombings in Israel or 9/11 or 7/7 or the recent police action which lead to the airorts being shut down. They do not really believe it is wrong and that is why the do not condemn it more. IMO.

Again we have the diversion tactic asking about christianity. This is irrelevant as I have asked a question about Islam and muslims not christianity. In any case I recall that ALL the christian and Jewish religious leaders DID UNEQUIVOCALLY condemn the events I've enumerated. There was no dilly dallying or seeking to justify. Why don't the moderate muslim leaders do the same? It's a very very simple question?

TuBair, you may be right. There are only muslims and deluded people. But in a recent poll something like 1/3rd of muslims indicated support for the suicide bombers/violent type of approach to defending Islam - this imo is not compatible with the values of a modern democracy.

Aissa,
It is wrong imo to compare what the USA did in Iraq to suicide bombers. The suicide bombers target innocent people. US forces target military target and try to follow the dictats of the Geneva Convention, which does not include arbitrary beheading as practiced by your "muslim" brothers in Al-Quaeda etc.

Obviously Canadian and UK "moderate" muslims (there is a need for quotation marks) are different as their condemnation here in the UK has been lukewarm IMO.

A very good question and one that I ask my students all the time. They were all out on the streets condemning the Danish anti Islam cartoons but nerry a one has been seen demonstrating against Muslim suicide bombers in Iraq, Israel , England or anywhere else for that matter.
They always look sheepish and then say" But these people aren't Muslims!"
That may sound wimpy to us, but it goes to the very heart of the problem in that they see the world from a different viewpoint. Of course they condemn such acts of senseless violence in private, but to be public about it would alien to their thinking.

Moderate muslims do condemn these heretics(suicide bombers), we do not condone such actions that are so drastic that it destroys others lifes. But I am afraid the media does not portrayed our voice loud enough for these "idiots" to stop taking actions into their own hands.

They think they are doing Jihad. Alas it isn't so. For Jihad to occur, It must be led by a spiritual leader preferably a descendant of the prophet. But the case is not so. A jihad constitutes the entire Muslim Population , not the acts of a few. So in these case, these suicide bombers are not only wasting their precious Life but also their soul. Because the taking of even one life prohibits them from even entering one of the seven gates of Heaven.

These suicide bombers are merely people who are so frustrated with the situation in their Lifes that they take actions into their own hands. Not educated enough to know the true results of their actions. The only regret is that we the moderate muslims failed to educate the whole world about the true meaning of the religion.

It would also be nice if the other major religions could be more open minded instead of dwealing on the past torments they endured. I am sure since they claimed to come from the same tree, they would be able to work things out together. But alas the world is too full of Hatred to see the purity of any religion.May God protect us all in the days ahead.

I don't know where you live, but here in Canada moderate (no need for quotation marks) Muslims have condemned suicide bombers, and other socially progressive causes such as civil gay marriages. I also anticipate that they will continue to do so in the future. I have no personal connection to the Muslim community, but I do watch the news on television.

You have asked a very good question. Best question I have seen today on here.
from what I have found so far and can be wrong, the original i will call it muslim religon does not condone the taking of lives. now we have I guess the militant muslims who more or likely are not relly following the original religion.
I wish I could find the web site for you to read it would help you and others. there are three here in the united states that have renounced the muslim religon, In doing so they have be threatened, one was attacked and they threatened to kill his family if he did an interview about the religon. this may yet be archived on cbn news. that is where i saw this interview.

I guess it must be fear - I am not being funny or racist when I say its coming to a point when all Muslims must either be refused flights or only be allowed to travel with other Muslims during stressful times like these - its not fair as an English person, I feel they have come into my country had all the benefits and jobs then they ruin my holiday by making horrific threats to our airlines - I know it's only a small amount of the Muslim population provoking this behaviour and I feel for the families of the Innocent peace loving Muslims, believe me I am not racist but the governments layed back attitude to Asylum seekers swarming our country has just about cost this country its safe reputation, I now feel like emigrating myself.

How much time do you spend around moderate muslims that you feel that you can have an accurate idea of how many of them do or do not condemn the suicide bombers? I would think that moderate muslims are like moderate anyone else. They are not the ones with microphones in front of their faces.

They do, but you might not see them on tv. Muslims condemn those actions in all kinds of media. Those bombers are misguided about their religion. Why dont we see more widespread condmenation of usa attacking Muslim countries with war crime type tactics? Note to the questioner: check out the crimes of rape of women and children, torture and murder perpetrated by american troops. check out guantanamo bay. are you serious in saying americans don't kill innocents? shock and awe? indiscriminate death from above. i think its naive to say america follows the geneva convention in practice
