I'm gonna quote Jim_Darwin and say that I'm not trying to convert anyone. I'm a Christian, just so you all know.

The second great commandment Jesus taught is that we should love our neighbor as ourself. As in, we need to love and respect one another and treat others as we would like to be treated. Can we all agree that this is also a basic human truth? We all want love, respect, and understanding. Let's be respectful this morning, thanks all ♥

My respect is relative to the respect of the questioner. So, to you, good morning, and have a nice day. Thanks for your civilized suggestion. Sincerely, an Atheist.

I can agree that this is a basic human truth... that we SHOULD love our neighbors as ourselves.

Here's another basic human truth... you can't make someone else think and feel the same way you do. That's the problem. There will (probably) always be someone or a group of people who will just not go along with that and decide that another group of people shouldn't live here... or there... or in that way... or at all. So while it is wonderful and great to live our lives according to Jesus' commandment, we must also be prepared to defend ourselves and others from those who think otherwise.

"If you want peace, prepare for war." It is a sad testament to the state of our world and I hope one day this phrase sounds archaic and backwards. However, it is our reality and as long as human beings exist, there will probably always be a need for preparation.

I try to live by the above mentioned commandment! It creates peace, respect, and community.

This also applies to all of God's creatures, not just man. Nature & animals are just as important! Some people don't even realize how we are directly affected by nature. When the rain forests are gone ~ we're in BIG TROUBLE!

I think most commandments are basic human truths, like thou shalt not kill.... there are always exceptions to the rule though. If someone is trying to kill you or your child, it is your human right, even instinct to defend yourself. If I meet a completely disrespectful mean person.... it's alot harder to be 'nice'. Last but not least, not all parents are honorable.

P.S. I'm not religious. I believe in God and spirituality, but I am a seeker, who finds my truth within.

That's the Ideal. That's civic virtue and the way that polite company acts. It's also an abstraction. Real primate behavior is more hostile to those who aren't in the family. Fortunately, the tribes can trade child brides thus creating a familiar bond. Our own species has social adaptations that make us desire to form coalitions and alliances, but the specter of hostility and warfare still lurks beneath our smiling exterior. All the great philosophers and 'prophets' have urged us to see beyond our hostile desires and seek peaceful means instead. They have all had to say this for a reason.

Yes i believe it should be something we do as humans not just Christians. Everyone enjoys being loved and loving someone else. We should be considerate of others and there feelings. Some people in this world just care about what makes them happy. All we can do is pray that God will shed His light upon them. Even though they may be rude we should still love them and let Christ shine through us. God bless and have a great week.

You have said just the right thing, we should always have respect for others, no matter who he/she is. I am saying this not as a christian but as a human being. These are the things that make us different and above all other animals (biologically we are also animals).May God bless you.

fully agree. But unfortunately the word Neighbour is an unlucky choice of word. Neighbours are people that live next you you i.e. belong to your community. Trouble in the world often stems from disagreement with people that live far away, have different thoughts, beliefs and traditions.

Did you know that you can be respectfull and share the scriptures in the bible at the same time. You must be respectful of God first and formost. You dont have to tolerate foolish comments against God on here either. I too am a Christian.

Yes it is true we all want everyone to love each other and get along but that will never happen because we are all different and there isnt one thing that we all can agree on that is why there are wars and crime
