I would commute to Oak Brook everyday and live in Oak Park. I think I would still have good city access with the public transportation from what I understand. I would like to live downtown, but I think the commute would probably be way too long???

Oak Park and Oak Brook are just about neighbors!!! There are a few thru streets that will take you directly... Ask some of your new co-workers (that will break the ice). But Oak Park is a beautiful city. And they are both close enough to Chicago for the night life!!!

Don't live in downtown. It's not that really great and the commuting will definitely take too long and it will become frustration more and more by each passing day.

The CTA (Chicago Transit Authority) and the Blue Line (train line) both go to Oak Park so you could have a little more options than living in Oak Park, northside Chicago perhaps.

Just look around and just find a place that you like.

If you can afford to live downtown go for it. You can take the Subway or El from downtown to Oak Park. Then buses if you need to go a few blocks more. During bad weathehr you will like the train as you watch the cars doing 20 to 30 and you are on the train doing 50 to 60. You can buy monthly transportation passes that allow you unlimited travel. If you plan on going to Aurora or further west you would then need to use the commuter trains.

Chicago Traffic is horrible, on a good day, on a bad day and every other day. if I were you i would really find a place in Oak Park, You will be decently close to take public transportation weekends to visit the city etc. There is never ending construction.

Sounds like you need to find a house in an Oak Tree!
