In my opinion, this happens because Israel is supported very strongly by the super-powers of today. The United States and many other western countries find it useful for their own benefit to support Israel and defend its action whatever they are. You only have to think of the special treatment given to Israel by the so-called international community. Any aggressive action taken by Israel is considered to be "self-defense", while exactly identical actions of the Arab satets are termed "terrorism". and everybody should remember that Israel had already hundreds of Lebanese hostages in its prisons.
The state of Israel was created at the expense of suffering of the Palestinian people who were simply thrown away from their homeland in which they have been living for hundreds and thousands of years.
ISRAEL IS STILL OCCUPYING TERRITORIES OF AT LEAST THREE ARAB COUNTRIES and IT IS THE ONLY MIDDLE EAST COUNTRY WHO HAS NUCLEAR WEAPONS. In spite of that everybody sympathizes with Israel in its "self-defense". Israel is a country which was planted by force in this region, you only have to read history in order to understand the facts. Europe have planted Israel in our region out of the sense of guilt the Europeans had because of their bad treatment of Jews in the past. The Arabs now suffer from this European sense of guilt. Why didn't the Europeans create the state of Israel in the middle of Europe if they are really so tender-hearted ?!!!!

Well I would say being surrounded and attacked daily tends to make you a little ruthless and rightly so. If they don't show that they will absolutely destroy the enemy then they are finished and will be invaded, tortured and killed. Israel's enemies have not only sworn to fight them but to ERASE their existence from the world....So before you say Israel is cruel go talk to the Iran, Lebanon, Syria, etc and ask why THEY are so cruel, hateful, and stubborn.

Israel was formally founded as a nation in 1949, and to this day many Arab countries in the Middle East STILL do not recognize Israel's sovereignty. The Israelis have literally been at war with at least one of the Arab nations or any number of Arab extremist groups since they became their own country. The Arabs in the surrounding countries would love nothing more than to see every Jew in the region exterminated. BOTTOM LINE: The Israelis are fighting for their survival. You may think their tactics are extreme, but do you think we would be having any problems whatsoever with Al-Qaeda if our defensive posture was the same as Israel's?

Its actually more than a one time incident. Hezbollah fighters that enjoy complete freedom in Lebanon have been attacking Israeli interests along the shared border. The recent kidnappings/killings was the last straw.

So cruel? Defense is not cruelty, it is a right. I feel sorry for the Lebanese, but they need to get control of their country and stop Hezbollah from hijacking their government and starting wars. Hezbollah deserves everything they get, especially when they start a conflict then hide among civilians and use refugee camps, hospitals and residential areas as their base of operation. Look at their tactics and consider why they do that? The risk the lives of civilians to further their cause.

Hezbollah storms into across the border kills soldiers and kidnaps 2 of them after of course sending rockets into Israel every week.

Everyone has a breaking point and I guess Israel got pushed past theirs. Frankly I think they were soft on Hezbollah.

If it was Ronald Reagan leading there would be no more Hezbollah...of course this is hindsight
