He has 12 now and he's what....30 years old. I'd say its a given and probably before the year 2010.

By the time Nicklaus was at Tiger's stage in his career he had cut back playing- he was into golf course design at a very young age- Murifield in Ohio was being built at this point in Nicklaus's life that Tiger is at. Tiger will get to about 20 or 21 majors- he only needs about one a year until he turns 40 and he gets some favorable courses to win majors on- he can win at Augusta any year, the 2008 US is at Torrey Pines where he's won five Buick Invitationals, the 2009 US is at Bethpage in New York where he dominated the 2002 Open. The 2010, and probably 2015, British will be at St. Andrews and he owns St. Andrews.

I think he can and will because that is the ONLY reason he said he really plays golf these days. I am rather sure that Tiger could have competed with anyone in any era with any equipment. Jack won 18 majors...great and everything...BUT he also was the RUNNER-UP 18 TIMES. He couldn't close as well as Tiger has been doing, which is why a bunch of those guys have so many majors.

Well golf is a very tricky sport anything can throw you off your game but it certainly seems like tiger is a very good position to match nicklaus's records, we will have to see how it develops now tiger has taken a more mature approach to playing golf, he is not going for it anymore or at least as much as before now he is concious of his place in the score board so he is securing shots more often he is going for the par to make sure he wins than forcing a birdie that might be too tricky and force him to lose his lead.

The first 40 majors Jack played in, he won 9. His cumulative score to par was +30.

In Tiger's first 40 majors, he's won 12 and his cumulative score to par is -118.

The reason the guys Jack played against have more major wins is because Jack didn't win as high a % as Tiger does. Ernie, Phil and the like don't have as many major because Tiger has won them! Tiger plays against better fields and is shooting obscene scores to win. AND, he improves his swing every year!

He's won 30% of the majors he's played in. He only needs six more wins, which - at his current pace - is only 20 more majors, or four years. Look at his physical condition. Tiger will play golf at a higher level than anyone ever has AND he'll do it over a longer period of time.

It's not if, it's when and by how much.

Put it this way. Jack Nicklas got the same amount of majors as Tiger when he was 3 years older then him. Tiger is playing the best golf of his life right now. He'll get it in maximum 6 1/2 years.

It certainly appears as though Tiger will surpass Jack in "Majors" wins. That said, to put things in perspective; Jack competed against Faldo (6 majors), Ballesteros (5), Trevino (6), Watson (8), Palmer (7), and Player (9).

Tiger competes against Els (3), Singh (3), & Mickelson (3).

So, when considering those numbers, which is really the greater golfer???

Only if he stays healthy and motivated. In which case he'll probably have 18 by age 36 four years younger that Jack. Snead's 82 victories will fall about the same time.
