Your hair sounds like it's beautiful. But it also sounds like it might be a 2 hour comb out & a huge high maintenance situation especially if you're wearing it loose. My suggestion would be to continue to wear it in a braid or bun except on very special occasions. Have you tried a vinegar rinse for a great shine?

Oh, your hair comes to your knees? My goodness! Well make sure that you use a good shampoo that is made to help rebuild and/or repair hair and a good conditioner. I would stop wearing it up so you can get some sunlight to it and help make it stronger. Also, the more that you wear it up and braided, the more damage and the more easier it is to break. I don't know why, but it does. Also, if you want to wear it down and its frizzy, I would see if you can find a salon that won't charge you a lot to straighten it for you every couple of days or go and get a good ceramic straightener. Not the cheap ones that you can get at Wal-mart, but one of ones that you can get at a salon. They are expensive ($250+), but work a lot better. The reason that I said to have it done, is because it is going to take you forever to do it yourself.

Wow, knee length hair! You should probably have it trimmed a little more just to get the dead ends off and smooth the bottom edges. There are a lot of really good products on the market to make your hair shine.

If you put highlights in your hair it looks more shiny. But if you use this to often it can also damage your hair.
