The most recent combat between Hezbollah and Israel was merely one battle in a war begun 58 years ago when Israel once more became a nation. While some claim Hezbollah won this battle (by merely surviving) Israel also accomplished much and learned important new lessons about their enemies and their own readiness. In the war between Israel and her declared enemies, Israel alone seeks peace. Her enemies seek nothing less than Israel's destruction. In such a conflict, war is the only option and only victory by one side or the other will end the war.

Well, clearly Lebanon lost, but civilians are always the biggest losers in any armed conflict. Being occupied by Hezbollah terrorists who fire missiles across the border, then run over by Israeli forces in retaliation to those attacks- just not a happy place to be.

Israel didn't fare so well, simply because the violence and destruction has bolstered Hezbollah's popularity in the region. Since Hezbollah put up a tough fight instead of being overrun in a few days, the perception of Israel as a military superpower has taken a hit. Sure, Israel pushed them back to the river, but it took a long time. As a result, things will be much dangerous in the region for years.

Hezbollah didn't win since they were beaten back and driven out of southern Lebanon, but for all of their losses, they gained political clout, and they're already re-arming. The UN is doing it's usual thing, getting bogged down in negotiations about who will comprise the peacekeeping force while the people in Lebanon & Israel suffer.

Syria and Iran are the big winners- their stirring things up has temporarily worked very much to their advantage.

As for there never being winners in war- tell that to the people of France, Russia, Poland and Great Britain. Those countries wouldn't exist and we'd all be speaking German and living under Nazi rule if the allies hadn't won WW2.

"War is an ugly thing, but not the ugliest of things; the decayed and degraded state of moral and patriotic feeling which thinks nothing is worth war is much worse. A man who has nothing for which he is willing to fight; nothing he cares about more than his personal safety; is a miserable creature who has no chance of being free, unless made and kept so by better men than himself." - John Stuart Mill

There were no winners in this skirmish, that was deliberately provoked by Iran, Syria and their surrogate, Hezbollah.

War is the least favorable way to attempt to resolve issues such as the one involving Israel vs. Hezbollah. however, when you are faced with an enemy that is hell bent for your destruction, as is Israel's enemies, than war may be the only logical alternative.

Israel's only real chance for survival is to maintain it's wolverine mentality. That is; if you even look at me cross-eyed, I will break your face!

In war, there are no winners. And humanity loses as a whole. And you have to see the hatred they have for each other in that nick of the woods to believe it. They postively HATE. They are taught to hate. Pathetic.

War is not a solution to anything but the population explosion.

There was no winner. The war has just began.

To be continued.....

Cut off the head of Islamofascism by dealing with Iran, and there will finally be a chance in the region and the world.

Islamofascism will be eradicated.

There was no panel of judges to declare a winner. So both sides declare victory.
