Hip hop started in the inner city ghettos of NY back in the late 70's. It is part of black culture although the rap of today leaves a lot to be desired. True cultured intelligent blacks listen to jazz and real 70's soul like Nina Simone.
White people who listen to rap have been fed a liberal ie by the MTV establishment. They feel guilty for being white and try to be ethnic. They are liberal morons.
Listen to the Savage Nation!

because some people of non African American descent choose to follow the path of least resistance. I gone to predominately white schools all my life and they listen to nothing but "HIP HOP" but if a white person says something they will change up the style of music but still listen to hip hop.
It may be the way some people were raised as well- if you've grown up listening to country western-techno/disco-heavy metal-and so-on, then you'll do so once you're older!
And whats up with the "WHITE" vocalists all of a sudden starting to want to rap--Paul Wall, Eminem{however its spelled}, and on & on.
Its a new day and age PLEASE GET OUT OF "THE WAY THINGS USED TO BE"

Where did you get that thought?
If thats true my guess would be cause Hip Hop is run mainly by black people and not by white people.
I hate racist questions...... why can't we all just be "People", people with different styles and choices. I'm white and I listen to mainly Hip Hop but I'm from the country...... What F***in' difference does it make!

some white people don't like hip hop, because mostly blacks like it. It's like me asking why is the majority of Punjabi music played by east Indians and not by whites or blacks or Hispanics or even Asians...do you understand what I am getting at here...?

i hate questions like this! (no offense to the asker) but the responses they generate are sickening. why can't someone (regardless of their color) listen to whatever they want to and why do some people feel the need to hate on all of hip hop, stereotyping it into the sub-category of Lil Jon screaming WHAAAT, YEAHHHHH, OKAYYYY into a mic. there are amazing hip hop artists out there like talib kweli for example who rap about things aside from money and bitches. just as there are amazing techno artists who can turn a beat and an electric synth into something so infectious that you just can't help but want to dance (whether you're black, white, or purple). i'm black, i listen to rap, but i also listen to reggae, techno, rock, pop, some country -- whatever the hell i feel like listening to. why does music (or anything for that matter) have to be race-specific?

Because many white guys (like myself) think that hip hop is nothing more than ghetto garbage music.

white people are smart enough to play their own music and actually have talent that allows them to sing instead of shout into a microphone
