Does Coffee stunt your growth? I have heard this expression over and over from parents (I'm one) to grandparents. Reason: A bet with my husband there's NO truth to it what-so-ever! Son is 14, and aquired its taste. Only let him have it once in awhile because I feel milk and juices are better. He keeps harping on him about the stunt growth issue!!!

Mom gave us coffee when we were little girls...my grandpa (83 years old now, so you know kinda what time he comes from) used to say it would affect our skin pigmentation if you know what I mean. Another myth! Just something a redneck man might say back in the 70's.
Anyway, we are both a little taller than Mom, so I don't think it stunted us that much. As for skin pigment, I freckle instead of tan so I guess it didn't do much to give me a bit of color either.

My mother used to tell me that I would grow a tail if I drank coffee.
I know many Bosniacs who drank Turkish coffee since they were children (it is a sort of cultural issue with them) and they are doing fine. Sort of.
Never heard that it could stunt a growth (that is what alcohol does) but children are often drinking Coca-Cola which is also filled with caffeine and I read somewhere that scientists found it can provoke some kinds of epilepsy. So, if you let your kid drink Coca-Cola, you might as well let him drink coffee.

Myth. In moderation it is fine for a 14 year old.
Teenagers enjoy the effects of caffeine just like the rest of us. That's why Mountain Dew and Red Bull are so popular.
Of all the mainstream colas, Mountain Dew is the highest in caffeine.

Fiction/myth. They even give the smallest premie babies caffeine!
Like the don't swim for thirty minutes after you eat, this myth arose as a result of parent wishes.
Caffeine can make some kids hyper, I guess is why this one gained ground.

Coffee will have no effect on your growth, but using it a lot especially in children can be addictive and if not taken for a few hours it'll cause a headache.
