It's not like when you go to a travel agent they say my atlas is truth, or like train fans say my loco spotters handbook is truth, is it? So why is this done by Christians? It seems to me that they aren't as sure of the truth of the bible as they are trying so desperately to appear.

what's also extremely funny to me is that the people that say it the loudest are the ones least likely to have actually read it.

Because they believe it is, in almost the exact same way as you do not. Anyway, who lives their life by a travel atlas or a loco spotters handbook?!? Could I be forgiven for asking why Atheists feel the need to so arrogantly assert that the bible is false? do you see where am I coming from. I'm not trying to anger you or annoy you or whatever. Just helping to see it from my point of view. If you want a true answer, ask the Christians themselves. I am a Christian and don't feel that the question is asking me anything, just asking your fellow atheists if anyone wants to have a go at Christians.

Please understand that because we think it is right we should be entitled to it, though I agree that we shouldn't shove it your faces. Remember, that just as you are offended by people saying the bible is true, perhaps think that others are offended by you saying it is not true.

Differences in opinions. I could probably say that the bible has been proven to be true, and show my evidence for it, just as you could probably do the exact contrary.

From this question you now have all the atheists' point of view, so could I suggest that you ask us Christians why we believe it, and also why we think we should tell you that it is true. Then I think you will find your answer to this question. I hope that you can see what I mean. Good luck.

I think it's because when they talk to people they get a lot of responses from people that arrogantly say it's wrong or full of stories. Some may get to the point that they automatically come right out with a defense even before an onslaught has begun.

You can't tell me you've never felt that way about something... you want to tell your side of a story, but someone keeps calling you a liar, you begin to get defensive. Nothing wrong with wanting to defend what you believe is the truth. Note that I use the word Defend, no need to defend if you aren't being attacked.

Why are people so arrogant about peoples decision to believe the bible is truth rather than not?

1. Making an assertion is not arrogant. If all assertions are arrogant, then your assertions are also arrogant, by definition.

2. Defining a document as "true" or "false" is a matter of research and analysis. Once the validity of a document is established, the claims about that document are either factual or erroneous. The Bible has passed countless tests, especially in the last 100 years, when it has come under vigorous attack. Further attacks don't really come from lack of faith in the document itself, they are founded in a bias against the content, and hence are lacking in scientific validity.

3. Your travel agent or train fans had better be peddling truthful, or valid, merchandise, when they hand out their atlases and handbooks, otherwise their product is worthless. They, btw, are not selling "TRUTH", they are selling "FACTS". While facts are solid and truthful, truth can be emotional and spiritual as well as physical.

4. A continued assertion doesn't indicate desperation or a lack of confidence. It can also indicate that the assertion is being continuously questioned or attacked, as it is in this case. In the presence of questions, it is rude to not answer. In the presence of attack (or counter-arguement), the asserter must answer, or risk conceding the arguement by default.

5. Truth or falsehood is NOT a matter of opinion. That is an independent evaluation. Assertions, however, can be based on bias, with a lack of evidence (as are many negative assertions!), in which case the label "arrogant" would certainly apply.

The reasons Christians assert that the Bible IS the truth is because it is. Jesus said he was the Son of God and that noone was saved except through God theFather. All of these are either true or false. There is no room for greyness or obfuscation. It may seem arrogant to you, but if something is either true or not there is no easy way of putting that across. I personally do find that a small minority of Christians do put over the gospel in an unsensitive way. But I actually find most Christians are not forthright enough in presenting the gospel.

we are sure that the Bible is Truth........ but desperation comes when it is not believed. Suppose you had cancer (GOD forbid) and I had the cure for cancer....... and I tried to give it to you and you kept telling me no. I wouldn't want to see you die a horrible death from cancer. I would become desparate because I could help you and you didn't believe me. Its the same thing with God, I know how to go to heaven and be saved, but people don't want to hear it. I am desperate cause I don't want to see people go to hell. Some Christians are arrogant because they lack spiritual maturity and they get upset. Their heart is in the right place to want to help people but they lose focus when they get told no. You can kind of understand if you were walking down a street and a house is on fire. You run into the house and there is a child in there. You want to pull the child out but the child has always been taught not to talk to strangers for any reason. You try everything possible to get the child out. But the child won't come with you. You have no chioce but to leave the child in the burning building because the child is too big to carry or drag out.

I loved music, no, i became *obsessed* with music, I nevertheless like it, yet there's a reduce. I loved punk rock noticeably and different heavier music, even rap in the previous. You're asking the wrong people by the sounds of it. The Bible is the only Truth. Once you have a personal relationship with God, nobody or nothing can challenge your faith. Believe me, I know my God is real and I can help you if you need to know more, or put you in touch with the appropriate people, You just have to ask.

To be honest, are you sure you're asking true born-again-Christians. I can only advise you to sincerely ask Jesus Christ into your life and everything you want to know about God will eventually be revealed to you as you grow in the Christian Faith. You see you can go to the graves of all your false prophets and Buddha, Miohammed etc. and dig up their remains, but go to Christ's tomb and it's empty, why? because He Rose from the dead.

Openmindly read the Gospels and preferably some of Pauls letters especially the letter to the Ephesians. Once you have experienced this tremendous understanding of God's Will for you, Satan will appear as an angel of light to confuse you, thinking that he will destroy your relationship with God, don't be taken in by this.

If you want chapters and verses then the first thing to do is read Genisis very carefully and read Christian Literature, i.e. Life-How did it get here. But to be honest , all your answers are in the Bible.
You want a quote from the Bible, John 3 v16, Isaiah 43 V 1-3. The Sermon on the Mount, Mathew chapters 5 - 8.

Turning your life over to Christ will take courage, as an ex-soldier, I can truly identify with this. let's put it this way, if there was no God, I wouldn't be here today answering your Question, I wouldn't be alive, and that's the truth. Please, learn to identify the difference between satans manipulation, and the Truth in God. I could give you many scriptual references to your question, but the real step is finding Christ and asking him into your life. There will be no doubt about it, if you're sincere, the Holy Spirit will reveal everything to you. He loves you and wants to save you from hell and an eternity without God.

If it's guidance you need then contact you're nearest true Christian Church, myself, or Christians who will explain anything you need to know. Remember we (True Born-Again-Christians) love everyone.

Probably for the same reason atheists feel the need to arrogantly assert that there is no God. I'm from Missouri -- SHOW ME. There is more documented evidence of the life, death, burial and resurrection of Jesus Christ than there is of Christopher Columbus and his voyages to the New World, but that's taught as "truth" in school. So why are people so quick to dismiss the claim of God the Father Almighty? Simple: People don't want to believe in God because they want to do whatever the heck they want and they don't want to be accountable to anyone or anything.

I think it is truth to them because they believe it, but they forget quickly that their faith is still NOT TRUTH. They pass their belief off as fact. There is no factual proof of truth to this day that god exists. NO PROOF. The bible is NOT proof. It is a BOOK, and there is NO proof that it is god's word or how many people wrote it or anything. If christians want to believe that the words in the bible are the words of god, then that is their right. But the rest of the world does not have to put faith in that, or any of the bible's teachings, because there's still no hard core evidence that there's a god, or that there's only one, or who wrote the bible. I don't mind if people want to defend their own faith - BUT DON'T IMPOSE IT on the rest of us who have our own opinions and lifestyles that simply don't go with your faith. WE also have a right to defend that. Don't call the bible "truth" when you KNOW you cannot prove without a doubt that it is true. When all you have is belief that it's true, it is not enough to call it "truth" and spread it around, trying to convert people. I can't prove it is a lie, but you can't prove it is truth, either!

from Matthew (after Jesus exorcised a demon from a boy when the disciples could not) "And Jesus said unto them, Because of your unbelief: for verily I say unto you, If ye have faith as a grain of mustard seed,ye shall say unto this mountain, Remove hence to yonder place; and it shall remove; and nothing shall be impossible unto you" Mt 17;20
Now before somebody nuts up about quoting from the Bible remember the question is for why. The basic reason for why is that Christians want so much to prove their faith yet we always fall short of the glory of God. In many minds faith and truth go hand in hand. I'm Christian so I hope you understand my non arrogant point.
