First off, don't listen to most of these idiots.

Marijuana is not physically addictive.

Smoking one joint is not worse than 5 cigarettes, and even if it is, you only have to smoke half a joint to get pretty baked.

I could go on and on, but, in the long run, it's healthier than cigarettes.

Did you do the right thing? Well, I'm not so sure.

Marijuana does not contain nicotine, therefore he will still have a craving for cigarettes.

Also, it's illegal. Though I'm for legalizing it, the truth is that if your son does get caught, he could go to jail.

If Mary J was legal, i would totally want my kids smoking it rather than cigarettes, the sad truth is, however, that it's not.

Seems to me you have smoked some yourself because that is both irresponsible and ignorant. Marijuana causes you to loose brain cells a lot more than cigarettes ever could. It is also just as addictive, if not more addictive.

Your attempt to help your son is great but telling him to smoke Mary J to quite smoking is the wrong advice. There's ways in quitting smoking, its in the mind. He's already decided that he's going to quit smoking and that's a start. He can wear patchers or ring up the 'quit smoking' helpline to help him stop or get into fittness. I think you better go tell your son that your advice was wrong.

My EX friend...is 43 yrs old and smokes WITH her son who's 17 and has since he was 12-13 yrs old...He buys it for her etc...NOT to mention that she also has a coke and other drug problem in her life...she has NO job, no home..she lives with another working druggie to support their habits..

I don't hang out with them anymore cause I was raised to think that you teach your children NOT to break the law...maybe it's just me..

It's still addictive and I would suggest to your son...buy the patch and try to quit that way...OH and one of the ex-friends...STILL smokes as much even smoking pot...

Why the heck did you let your son get away with smoking that much????

Marijuana is just as addicting and it is just as bad for your health

Well, I don't smoke anything but at least he won't be arrested for carrying around a carton of cigarettes. If doesn't want to quit, you can't force him to.

well, you tried to help. but marijuana is a starter drug. hardly anyone stops at marijuan (1/1000) thats why its called a gateway drug. just make sure hes not going on to cocaine or ecstacy or anything worse, because those are reeeeally dangerous addictions.
PS- marijuana is about the same as cigarettes, except it kills more brain cells
good luck with your son
and everyone should stop judging her. at least she tried to help her son. teenagers are just so hard headed. he probably wont listen anyway. kids never listen to parents

You need help! It's not normal for a parent to send any harm to there child. You're not only harming his health but you're risking his life. Because you know they do not sale marijuana in any store, which means you're sending him to the streets to get locked up or worst get killed. Nevertheless, it may lead to a stronger drug. Lets not for get the cost, what about his financial future.

Im so glad your not my mother! Who in their right minds would encourage their child to take drugs!
Dont you get it, you told him to SMOKE mari instead of cigs, but he is still smoking, it most likely to be worse for him as a spliff has no filter!
Although it is still under debate as to wether mari is addictive, it has been proven to cause mental health problems.
So no you didi not do right, you were very wrong!!!
