Epicurus.
The wise seek neither to escape from life nor death, for life does not trouble them and death does not seem an evil. Just as with food, they don't choose the largest portion, but the most delicious. They do not desire the longest period of time, but pluck the most pleasant fruit.
The Fourfold remedy: Nothing to fear in God. Death is not worth a worry. Good can be attained, and evil can be endured
Palladas:
All human must pay the debt of death, nor is there any mortal who knows whether he shall be alive to-morrow; learning this clearly, O man, make thee merry, keeping the wine-god close by thee for oblivion of death, and take thy pleasure with the Paphian while thou drawest thy ephemeral life; but all else give to Fortune's control.
Plutarch:
Life and death are only the prelude to the Great Initiation. We are like those being initiated into Mysteries. At first they wander along tortuous ways and through wearisome mazes, which end in a shuddering passage through darkness full of terror. But then a clear shining light comes to meet you; pure meadows receive you; there is song and dance and holy apparitions.

I truly believe a dash of fear is what keeps us safe. But if the fear of death over takes you. Maybe you need to know your maker better. I have to say I do not want to die anytime soon!!!
And I am a bit afraid of it only because I don't like to hurt!! Yet I know the word!(what God says) He and I am sure that he is in control even when my tiny mind can not see why, when or what is going on! In the word it says "God has NOT given us a spirit of fear, BUT the Lord has given us power, love and a sound mind! So if the Lord did not give you a spirit of fear. But you have it you have gotten that from somewhere else. I believe that anything God did not give you. You have the power to get ride of. So email me if You need anything sweety! Are you afraid of the way you die, ie the potential pain and suffering associated with it, or the idea of not existing here anymore and being with those you love?
For example I am not scared of me dying, but I do sometimes have irrational fears of losing my partner/family/friends - it is hard. I think for me it is the feeling of helplessness that goes along with this inevitability - lack of control over it.
I think though, as long as you live a good life, make sure you openly cherish those you love, and be healthy, you have no need to worry about the "what ifs".

Just live for today and forget about tomorrow.
From the moment we are born we are destined to die, its a fact of life but to go through life fearing death is just getting to Hell a lot earlier.
All you can do is take one day at a time and live for that.
I know that one day I will die, there is no way I can put it off so accept it and move on. I have several illness's but if I take care in what I do then I should live for quite some time yet, afterall I am only 58 so do not plan on going anytime soon.

The best way to overcome any fear is to confront it. What is it about death that scares you... the dying part, or not knowing what's on the other side? There's a complete guide on how to deal with that in this book: http://www.seekwellness.com/bookstore/books/book65.htm

people have always feared the unknown. Rightly so, as how much do we really know abt what happens when we do die.
Religions will have you beleiving that we go on to another place, a better one, or worse one, depending on what kind of person you were in this life.
Others beleive that we come back in another life form, be it human or other.
If you have a beleif in heaven, then I suggest that you pray more and live a good life here, so you may gain entrance to heaven.
I wish you peace and live your life now, enjoy today and the here and now.
Blessings

I have had a similar problem in the past. I find it happens when I think I am underachieving or not working towards the goals and dreams I have in store for myself. It's a long shot, but maybe the same is true for you. Figure out what you really want to get out of life and then figure out how to get it, and maybe (maybe) this problem will go away.

Only the death of your physical body can release your soul from its prison. Just think of it as slipping off your overcoat. A greater fear would be having to live for ever, only evil people like Hitler would deserve that.
