First of all I am an eclectic so I am not trying to push any set of beliefs on anyone.

I am simply looking at the difficulty of describing the spiritual to those who don't believe in the spiritual.

Let me explain: I grew up in California and was there for the 1989 earthquake. After moving out of California I have tried to explain to others what it was like to be in that quake, but have discovered how difficult it is to accurately convey the experience, even though I can describe it in terms of physical sensations.

How then can the spiritual be explained? If an analogy is made with something in the physical world, athiests become angry. If you have never had a spiritual experience, and deny the possibilty of the spiritual, how then can I describe it to you?

I think a spiritual experience will be different for each person based on who they are and what the experience is. Your question reminds me of the old story of the group of blind men trying to describe an elephant. Each one feels something different so they cannot agree on what is a correct answer.

Trying to explain religion or spirituality to a non-believer is like trying to describe color to a blind person. You either believe or you do not. You can make whatever argument you want, but you will never get a "now I believe" from the non-believer.

Yes, it is very difficult for such opposing views to discuss spiritualiy. It takes patience and open minds to even try to discuss this. As for convincing someone of my beliefs, why do I need to do that? I am only able to affect my own beliefs, and the futility of trying to convince others is what leads to hostility.

To have faith in anything is just that....faith. Its believing without seeing or touching or feeling. Its more than a hunch or a notion...its something a lot of people would die for. So if your trying to explain it to someone i would agree the best explanation is how you live your life.
