Usually, salary is not discussed on the first interview.

Generally speaking, specialty offices pay more than general dentists, but mostly wages depend on skills and experience. Cost of living in your area also factors in.

Our office starts a new assistant out at less than the current assistants are making, but we give a review after 90 days. If the person is performing above expectations and is working independently, an increase is given.

Raises are based, not on how long they stick around, but performance. Taking on additional responsibilities, willingness to attend continuing education, reliability and attendence are all factors.

If there is a placement agency in your area, you might try to contact them as a source.

Type the word salary into your search engine. You'll come up with a number of sites that will have numbers for tons of different types of positions all over the country. Find the position you are looking at, in your state/area and you can go from there.

Good luck with the interview!

Good answer, emmalue.

Where does your sister work, A WOMAN WHO KNOWS? I think if I could make that kind of money guaranteed without the hassle of owning a business, I just might consider being a dental assistant.
