Residents who attended the meetings of the Wisconsin Conservation Congress (search) voted Monday night to allow hunters to kill cats at will, just like skunks or gophers

NOW, DO YOU KEEP YOUR CAT INSIDE OR OUT?

2006-08-23 01:08:05 · update #1

Every year in Wisconsin alone, an estimated 2 million wild cats kill 47 million to 139 songbirds and small wild animals. To me THAT is sick and SOMETHING NEEDS TO BE DONE. If you CAN"T SPAY AND NEUTER AND KEEP YOUR DAMN CATS INSIDE, THEY WILL BE HUNTED AND SHOT.

If you use live traps, THEN what do you do with a wild cat?? You can't take it home, You can't keep it inside? What do you do with it?

If I'm out in the woods, and I SEE a cat, I'm shooting it. Plain and simple. You cat people are a strange lot, you cry when Fluffy gets killed when it is outside. What do you expect? Fluffy isn't as smart as you think.....Owls, fox, racoon, weasels, fisher cats, otters, hawks, eagles, semi-trucks, and hunters will kill your damn serial killer cats.

2006-08-23 01:39:34 · update #4

2 million killing 48 million is NOT a BALANCE, it's MASS MURDER and proof that cats are SERIAL KILLERS. Kill the damn devil beasts that are outside and stalking. If you have a cat, LEAVE IT INSIDE.

AC16, I do not live in Wisconsin nor do I use makeup. The products I buy are NOT tested on animals and I DO eat what I hunt. I do NOT eat beef from that is NOT organic. I don't know what YOUR problem is. Chill out. I hate cats, I hate people who don't keep their cats inside, I hate people who don't spay and neuter their cats, I hate the fact that cats maim and torture small animals and people think that this is somehow cute.

If Mrs. Smith kept her damn devil beast inside, there would not be a case of "mistaken identity"

ALLEYCAT "If you care so much, why don't you join a feral cat rescue group that captures, sterilizes and rehabilitates these animals into loving pets" YOU CAN"T TAKE a wild cat and make it a pet. Duh. And if you care to READ my comments, you would SEE that I DO BLAME people for dumping their pets in the woods and for NOT FIXING them. Take a chill pill and relax. I DO do my part in SHOOTING all the feral cats I can. And they DO maim and torture their prey. And I DO get rid of cats that use my yard as a litter box. I save my neighbour's money, they don't have to buy cat food anymore. Have a nice day.

when teh ASPC goes to homes of "collectors", people who have dozens of cats, they cats they rescue are usually all put down because they are basically wild and can NOT be tamed. That is why they are put down. Duh.

Sadly, this is probably the most effective answer. Poison is unreliable (can't be specifically targeted at cats) and wild cats not only kill indigenous wildlife, but also spread disease, attack family pets, and are generally quite a nuisance. Perhaps this will encourage people to be somewhat more responsible, but it only take one pair to produce thousands.

My cats are INSIDE always. I think that unless you live in a rural area or on a farm, your cat belongs inside. I love cats, but I am not opposed to solving the over population problem. If spaying/neutering were more affordable and there were places that you could go with a cat you can no longer care for, there wouldn't be as many wild ones. Wild cats (ferral) are not happy at all. They are in the weather, starving and eaten alive by fleas and ticks. They have diseases and keep passing them to each other and having more wild kittens. The humane society should send a "clean up" crew to capture all of the wild cats.

There is a lot of things that happen to cats out there. It has been shown that if you keep your cat indoors they live longer, happier and healthier. Both the Humane Society and the SPCA will recommend keeping cats inside and not just because of them killing birds or small animals but because of them getting kills by cars, other large animals, by sadistic people, by fighting in with other cats or dogs. They are also more like to get feline leukemia which is spread from contact with other cats that are infected. I hear cats fights and cat/dog fights outside in the distance around here and I tell you it just breaks my heart to think it could be prevented if the animals were kept safe inside. I look out there to see where it is to see if I could help but I can't find them only hear the screeching of some pet getting hurt. Or to come across a pet cat that has been used for some sadistic purpose by kids/adults for kicks.
We have a law here that says you have to keep your pets cat or dog inside or within your control and I say if you love your pet then its a good law.
Yes I know everyone doesn't agree with this when it comes to cats - but I see no difference between cats and dogs - you keeps dogs at home and love them - cats - why can't people give them the same respect.
I would much prefer live trapping (which we did once) as opposed to this hunting deal - but the best is still to keep them indoors in a loving home.

The only truly successful program is the "catch and release" program to control population. Strays are caught, neutered, and released, which cuts down on over breeding. Only those people such as Cindy who make it the sad little purpose of their lives to diss cats day in and day out on Yahoo! Answers could honestly think that shooting every cat in sight is not a crime. You need to find a hobby, Cindy, and leave the rest of the world at peace. I've found the greatest company and friendship I ever could have found in my two wonderful boys who have amazing personalities. You can b**ch all you want, but get off of the posting sites in which people actually desire to say something nice about the animals they love.

I thought this had died a quick death last year!

Yes, I am opposed to hunting cats.I've lived with hunters all my life, in fact my 90 year old mother and I are the only members of my family that don't hunt. I see both sides of the hunting story. The plain fact is that 80% of the hunters out there don't know what they are doing, will shoot at anything and are dangerous. There is no way any cat let outside is going to be safe from these yahoos. So the moral is if this is true, keep your kitty inside. Bells and collars will not protect them from idiots with guns.

That is so sad. How is the "hunter" supposed to know that the cat in his scope is feral or a house pet? Someone should get a petition going to stop the craziness. There are other methods that could be used;live traps which are taken to the local Humane Society is just one alternative I can think of off the top of my head. I would like to know how in the world this plan was passed!!!

Okay, here goes....a little tough love....

Why do all you guys even respond to her? If you ignore her, she will go away....look at her pathetic history. She likes to go on the cat board and bait cat lovers with her stupid crap and wrong information about how to sell cats to Chinese restaurants and leave antifreeze out for stray cats. She HATES cats, and will do anything to kill each and every cat in the world if she had the chance. Obisously, she needs to get a job and stop her obsession with cat killing.

Here's a suggestion, why don't you guys go on the dog board and start saying all sorts of **** about how bad German Shepherds are, and how they should all be killed because of their tendency for violence. She loves German Shepherds, they can do no wrong in their book. LOL. Except kill small children. Her ignorancy is laughable.

She wouldn't care though, she would enjoy the attention.

But, at least you are getting 2 points out of answering her cat-hating questions. What the 2 points will get you is beyond me, but you still get them.

Cats do not maim & torture small animals dipsh*t. They EAT THEM. Just like you say you eat what you hunt! So do feral cats. Ever read a book? Ever study evolution? Darwinism? Survival of the fittest? Do you think these "kills" are random? No, only the weak, injured and unfit get killed when nature is left untouched. It makes the remainder of the species stronger, smarter and better. And they have offspring that is stronger and smarter too. Only us stupid human beings procreate to make other stupid human beings. We destroy the world around us, we rob those songbirds you seem to care about of their trees so they can escape these cats. We mess with the balance of nature be being selfish and careless. We wouldn't have a feral cat problem if stupid humans wouldn't let their pets have kittens and got them spayed & neutered. We wouldn't have a feral cat problem if people didn't dispose of their pets like yesterday's trash. Don't blame the cats for a problem that humans created. They're just doing what every living creature on this planet does. SURVIVING AND PROCREATING. If you care so much, why don't you join a feral cat rescue group that captures, sterilizes and rehabilitates these animals into loving pets. I, myself am owned by 2 rescued feral cats that are the joy of my life. They (and their offspring) are totally rehabilitated. To think that someone would have hunted them down for trying to survive disgusts me.

Cindy my dear - you're a gun loving, ignoramous who is lacking in both compassion and intelligence. You're so stupid. Feral cats are absolutely capable of being rehabilitated into loving pets. I OWN 2 OF THEM. I'm not going to bother answering your stupid rants anymore because you're obviously not asking to educate yourself. You're looking for justification to a ridiculous proposal in a cat forum. And if the best way you know how to debate your point is with the word "DUH", you need to read a book. Here's a recommendation..."An Inconvenient Truth" by Al Gore.

Although people do blame all the cats on killing the native wildlife it's not just them it's also foxes and alot of destruction is caused buy people ripping down forests and polluting the waters, the cats mainly kill mice and rats but they kill to survive it's not there fault, people introduced the cat they should find away to nicely deal with the problem.
I love cats and I have three females and they catch birds but it's mainly the pests birds and mice, without wild cats mice and rats are sure to take over.

I find it interesting that there is no mention of laws for maintaining cats. Must thery be in at night or on the owner's property?

What was happening that they had to even consider this law?

You aren't telling the whole story so it in mis-leading.

If you read the whole thing on the Fox news site, it refers to "wild" cats with no owner or collar.

I think it's ok but not worth the time spent on it. Cats kill birds. That's how it is...how can a law change that and how do we mess with nature's natural course?

I say kill them and ship them to China! We would be feeding the poor as well, (the government doesn't pay them much for working in factories that produce the patent violating computer chips, movies, etc)

It's a wonderful world!

That proposal has failed:

Conservation Congress Drops Feral Cat Proposal

Madison, WI, May 13th, 2005 – Wisconsin’s “Cat-Hunting” proposal has been defeated!

WisconsinCAT is delighted to report that the Conservation Congress has decided to drop Q62, the now infamous “cat-hunting” proposal, from further consideration before its body. They apparently have no intention of passing this on to the Natural Resources Board, the policy-setting body of the Wisconsin DNR. This means that Q62 is a dead proposal and will see no future action by either the DNR or our State Legislature.

WisconsinCAT wishes to extend its congratulations and gratitude to countless individuals and organizations that played a role in defeating this irresponsible policy.

The defeat of Q62 does not mean that Wisconsin’s free-roaming cat problem is resolved, nor does it mean an end to the DSTC campaign. There is no question that too many unfixed cats wander outdoors in Wisconsin and the results are obvious. Humane societies euthanize thousands of healthy cats on an annual basis as a result. We have the power to change this if we choose to.

Please join us at the Wisconsin’s first-ever “Feral Forum” to be held at Monona Terrace Convention Center on June 25th where concerned groups and citizens will come together as a state and develop effective and humane strategies for dealing with free-roaming cats in our state. Alley Cat Allies has been invited to play a special role at the forum. They are a nationally recognized leader in the area of feral cats, Trap-Neuter-Return programs, and community animal-control and we welcome their support of our efforts.

Stay tuned in to our website at dontshootthecat.com for details regarding the death of Q62, information regarding the upcoming Feral Forum, and other information regarding the future of Wisconsin’s cats.
