It depends where you live and how far away from the nearest fire station you live...I was a firefighter way out in the boondocks, and it could take 10 minutes to find the house we were going to...So it depends on your location...Also a firefighter can only hold your hand and talk to you, unless they are a paramedic to. But if you have had an injury, no meds are given for pain...You have to suffer till you get to the hospital...

It really depends on where you live.
If you live in a rural area with a volunteer fire department, it may take up to 20-30 minutes for them to respond (they have to wake up, get out of bed, get dressed, drive to the station, pick up the ambulance and fire truck, and drive to the location of the call).
Firefighters may be able to give meds, but they would have to be paramedic certified and have the pain meds available. Most firefighters are not paramedic licensed, and even if they were, they usually don't have pain meds on the fire trucks. A lot of times even the paramedics aren't allowed to carry pain meds.
In a suburban area with a paid fire department, the response can be as fast as 1 minute or as long as 5 or 10 minutes (depending on how far away you live from the station).
Hope this helps!

If the incident is classiied as an emergency then the paramedics will drive as quickly and as fast as the traffic conditions will allow. the more cars on the road the less speed is used for safety reasons. After all if they crash they will not be of any use to the patient wiating for them. On the subject of pain, in South Africa paramedics can give a gas called Entonox as well as Morphine injections.

Pain is not an emergency patients keep pain killers with them ;generally pain is never all of a sudden and there must be some reason for it .

It really depends on when the call was dispatched out, where the drivers were when they recieved the call. For PAIN go to the doctor, for bleeding open wounds call 911.
