Generally, my rule is within 10 years. Only because at different ages, most people are at different stages in their lives. A relationship should be something that grows and you grow together. An older person may have already experienced many things. Also, the life expectancy thing is an issue. I would never marry a man 20 years my senior. If he dies at 80, I will only be 60. Not even retirement age. I will have missed the spending my golden years with him.

My husband and I are 10 years apart and now that he is 32 I can say it has really been a rough road ,because I was mature and knowledge and he was not there yet ,I have had many issues of him not being mature enough .I think 4-5 years is enough.Age does make a difference people say it dont but they are wrong Im in that age thing and it has caused me alot of problems in the past ,he turned wild after marriage to me .so be careful it does make a big difference .either way you are not on the same mature level ,just not possible so him or you the older one suffers I think because I sure have been put thru it ,good luck to you .

14 years between me and mine, she being younger. I`ve had no problems. If she were a teenager i would struggle from a compatibility point of you, but when you both get a little older(20`s and 30`s) the differences don`t seem to be as wide.
Experience is important also, in both instances.

I don't think it should matter. My husband is 7 years younger and while it seemed awkward at first, he has caught up and passed me by in age by now (married 17 years). I still like to go to concerts, meet and socialize with people - he likes to go to work, come home, drink beer and go to sleep. I still don't like to tell people my real age, but that's just me cause I'm embarrassed and feeling a little old right now.

Age is relative.

if they are both 18 or older then they can be whatever age they feel comfortable with , but if they are teenagers then i think no more than 4 years apart if that many , in my opinion i think 2 years apart is the usual and good amount for teens.

use this formula:
1/2 your age plus 7
ex: your age: 30
1/2 is 15 + 7

The only time it is an issue is when it becomes an issue for the two people involved. Not what others think
