I'm glad it's not the norm, as it mentions in the article, most churches would not agree. I mean if teh church took everythign in the bible literally, it would be a scary place.

Blessed Beast, your opinion frightens me!! Not that you don't have the right to it, but I didn't expect anyone to really feel that way.

My thoughts are the same as they have been for a long time ... I am AMAZED that women even attend christian churches. The hard fact is that this IS what the bible teaches.

Christianity, historically just as great of a violator of women's rights as Islam.

As a woman and a Christian, I gotta agree with Bob (OWCH! Who threw that tomato??!!)

Seriously, mental capcity has little to do with it. Everbody knows women are smarter than men!! LOL

But, Paul was led by the Spirit to instruct Timothy not to allow women in his congregations to teach men. Alas, we are a fickle and emotional creature. That's how God created us.

What's not being said here is that this woman was NOT teaching a women's or children's class. She had in the past, but was not at the time. Also, as mentioned in the letter from the pastor, there were other mitigating circumstances.

They didn't throw her out of the church, they simple refocused their church doctrine to coincide with Scripture.

The problem has arisen that the pastor, while serving on the city council, has admitted his belief that OUTSIDE the church, women can do whatever they want. This, unfortunately for him, is simply not the case.

Women are supposed to be lovingly submissive to their husbands. Daughters are supposed to be obedient to their fathers or the other males in the family who are responsible for her.

The problem is not that he has reorganized his church to better fit with scripture, the problem is that he projects an unscriptural double-standard for women in general.

Was the church's (not just his, btw) decision fair? Yes. Nice? Not particularly. But, if the woman is indeed a Christian (I would hope so, after all these years), then she will pray for understanding & eventually come to accept her position in the Kingdom.

Women are not excluded from service. We have positions to fill, just like men. They are not, however, the same positions.

I've had a number of male preachers and pastors including John Hyge testifying that they found Christ after hearing the Word from there mothers. Where does this preacher come from?

i believe women do a good job preaching to their children in all forms. preaching is not only done in buildings called churches. actually a church is not a building.

Hi ontario ashley!! :o) I hope you're OK. As a Christian - I'm actually really pissed off at that guy. [And that's putting it mildly] Yet again - another 'Christian' making other Christians look really stupid. And that poor lady. And after all those years of faithful service too. What surprises me is how HE [and he alone - so it seems] was able to fire that lady. Other members of the church should have said, "Wait a minute - you can't do that!!" It IS nice to note - however - that she was offered dozens of teaching jobs almost immediately at other churches. So believe you me - HIS 'beliefs' are NOT shared by all Christians. [Including the one writing this message] Craig!! :o)

You people DO know why God, who created male AND female in His image, came to earth as a human MALE, don't you?

Males NEEDED the example and because of their pride would take nothing less than another male's direction. Women only needed another human female. We got Mary who leads us to Jesus who gives us the Father.

Males of this type spurn even Christ. Can't wait til it's THEIR turn to stand before His throne and try to justify their chauvinism.

That preacher is a disgrace to his calling. What was sauce 1900 years ago is rancid garbage today. Get a life; and get it in the 21st century. The only excuse for staying in the 1st century AD is because your time machine broke down.

The Bible is very clear about this.

1 Tim 2:9-15

Likewise, I want women to adorn themselves with proper clothing, modestly and discreetly, not with braided hair and gold or pearls or costly garments, but rather by means of good works, as is proper for women making a claim to godliness.

A woman must quietly receive instruction with entire submissiveness. But I do not allow a woman to teach or exercise authority over a man, but to remain quiet. For it was Adam who was first created, and then Eve. And it was not Adam who was deceived, but the woman being deceived, fell into transgression. But women will be preserved through the bearing of children if they continue in faith and love and sanctity with self-restraint.

Having women teaching is one of the reasons why the church is in a mess. Women do not have the mental faculties to teach anyone but other women and children.

In Christ,
Bob

I think there's more to this than meets the eye. Why would the pastor give that silly doctrinal reason as the cause of the firing, when he had to know nobody would take it at face value? This suggests to me that the real reason is something he doesn't want to say because it might jeopardize his political career. No politician wants to have "she disagreed with me so I had to let her go" on the public record -- that's too much meat for the media to feed on!

W/o reading the article (but I will), there were women prophets and judges, even in the time of Jesus. I think about 1/2 of our Sunday teachers are woman, and they are very good.

Christianity demands respect and honor to woman. Unfortunately some have taken their own views and used scripture to twist the whole picture.
