Phuket.
Bangkok is too crowded.
Pattaya is good ONLY for the bar/party scene.
Phuket has a great all around atmosphere.

I have to agree with everyone else, if you are going to spend a significant amount of time, spend it in Phuket.
However, don't simply bypass Bangkok. It is an amazing city with so much to see, Suan Lum Night Bazaar, catch a sunset at Vertigo on top of the Banyan Tree Hotel, the Chatuchak Weekend Market. Just with the typical tourist stuff with the wats you could spend a week.
Pattaya is for single guys looking for sun and fun and pretty much nothing else.
Phuket is beautiful. We stayed at Marina Phuket for 10 days and you get your own cottage on their grounds. Very expensive in Thai terms, but we had a great time being tourists on that trip.
If you want some adventure along the way, instead of flying from Bangkok to Phuket, take the train and the bus!

Difficult choice there,
Bangkok: If you want to shop, a must!!!!
Pattaya and Phuket: It is almost like Mauritius. I can't remember which one is which, but one of them you must take the airplane if you leave from Bangkok.
Thailand is a beautiful country!!!! Why don youdo all three as a tour? I went to Thailand for three weeks for holiday, 1 week I spend in Bangkok, (I stayed in the Park Hotel (fabulous), or you can try the Region Park Hotel as well), then I went to Pattaya for a week, go see the cabaret show and go to the corral beach! It is picturesque.
Then fly of to Phuket for the rest of the week. Believe me, it is an experience you won't regret.

Spend two days in Bangkok siteseeing, then if you just want to get laid, drunk, have a good time at the bars and at the beach and spend money go to pattaya. If your going with a girl friend or wife go to Phuket.

All depends on you. If you are for beach and island resort, head to Phuket.
If you like the bar scene, go to Pattaya.
If you want to shop, clubbing head for Bangkok.
Simple.

These 3 places had different theme .. so it all depends.
Phuket .. resort, relax and a little clubbing scene
Pattaya .. Beach party .. possibly wet & wild
Bangkok .. Eat, shop and Club. If you are planning for go-go fun, guess BKK is the answer.

Well, since I live in BKK so my answer would be Phuket!
Pattaya I would avoid it most of the time...

Bangkok : Best damn it!!! "She's a he"
Pattaya : Blow $$$$ on fake Viagra, but least chance of AIDS!!!
Phuket : Best beach to sleep on, after shemale gang takes all your money.
