I already speak French, English and Spanish. Thai and Mandarin are both tonal languages, but Thai has an alphabet, whereas Chinese doesn't. Hence my question...If one is to compare the grammar of both languages, which I think are fairly similar (no gender, no plural, no singular, no "tenses", etc.), would it be true to say that Thai is easier to learn?

I speak both languages fluently and IMHO I think in the beginning Thai might seem easier but the more you study the more complicated spelling and vocab can be confusing to you whereas it may seem very difficult at first to study Chinese as the writing is so confusing, but it has no complicated spelling system therefore you may be able to master it faster. Wikipedia says that Thai is one of the hardest languages to learn... nothing is said in the Mandarin article about it's level of difficulty.

Good luck with it!
