Being a Christian is just like a pumpkin! Let me try to explain...

First, God picks you from the pumpkin patch and brings you in from the field. The Bible says He selects us out of the world. We are in the world, but no longer of the world.

He then washes all the "dirt" off the outside that we received from being around all the other pumpkins. All the outside influences of our former life must be cleaned up. Old things are passed away and all things are become new.

Then, He carefully removes all the "yucky stuff" called "sin" out from the inside. Look at this! Yuk! Sin will not have such internal power. He then changes us from the inside out by the Power of His Word. That's why it is important to go the church and learn about God's Word.

He carefully removes all those seeds of doubt, hate, greed, and fear. He replaces them with the seeds of faith, hope and love. After Jesus is invited inside, you begin to experience the changing power of God's love in your life.

Then He carves a new smiling face. Our countenance is changed by the power of His presence in our life. We then become so grateful. It can even show on our face!

Now we are going to light this candle inside. Look! This pumpkin now reflects the light from inside out. So too, when Jesus, who is called the Son of Light, lives inside of us, He shines through our life for all to see. We can let His light reflect through us to reveal His presence. "Let your light so shine before men that they may be able to see your good works and glorify your Father, who is in heaven."

So you see, we Christians are really like this pumpkin! We will never be the same with Jesus inside of us. We can say like this jack-o-lantern, "Thy presence, my light!"

Your mom is making a joke of some kind. You will have to ask her to explain the metaphore. It doesn't make any sense to me.

If she had said "Jack-O-Lantern", that could be interpreted a little better. Jack-o-Lanterns are hollowed-out fruits, with fake faces carved into them, and a candle shoved inside. They spoil quickly. It would mean that your Mom thinks all Christians are fakes and good for nothing but decoration around the holidays. A really ignorant and bigoted viewpoint, if you ask me.

But then, your Mom said "pumpkin". Pumpkins are a large, nutritious, vining fruit, that ripen in autumn. When the foliage dies back, the fruit is plainly visible in the field. Pumpkins make delicious pies, breads, and casseroles, and have tasty edible seeds. The only things NOT used are the skins. They come in all shapes and sizes, and make nice decorations as well as nutritious additions to the fall table. This metaphore would be very positive.

Ask Mom which one she meant.

The Pumpkin is a really nice simplistic analogy of pretty much how a Christian feels...I liked the idea of being picked from the patch and washed off. I'd have to say the carving and scooping took a little more time and is still sometimes feels a work in progress but...the light and the smile (a little scary sometimes) is still there. Thanks for sharing that. Love in Christ, ~J~ <><

I would assume she means they are bought by picking out and are a shaped and sized to the person//ministers want..

Then they are carved and painted to suit the want/will of the person//ministers liking..

and like Jesus said to the ministers back in the day..

after you are done you make them twofold the sons of hell..
also inwardly you are filled with dead bones..

and now the pumpkin like the people in the ministers church
are cut and shaped to the false teachers//ministers will..

and like the pumpkin, inside the people are decaying, dying day by day and soon will rot and be naught and they know it not..

get up in your church and ask the laws of eternal judgment..
no one will know nor will agree on a logical basis..

The church's are grossly divided...

adolf hitler knew that and kept the roman catholic and luthern churchs.. ( very well kept secret by the church leaders )

Jesus said a house divided will not stand

She is obviously ridiculously rude, I'm sorry to say, or this is a very bad joke trying to provoke other rude people to bash Christians in some equally bad way.

Is your mom a satanist. Maybe she likes to carve them like a pumpkin. Not nice.

Hmm. A pumpkin consists of a nearly-impenetrable shell surrounding a mass of mushy, watery, almost-flavorless flesh.

Your mom may be on to something. :-)
