I just asked that same q not long ago!!! What it basically comes down to is this...if you are meant to be with someone, then fate, the universe, WHATEVA is out there will work it so that you will end up together. If he/she meets someone else in the mean time, then you weren't meant for each other. You have to let someone go if they want to be free, in order to see if they are indeed the right person for you, and you will know this if they come back/ are waiting for you/ haven't met anyone nearly as decent as yourself in the meantime!
This does not make the intial time any easier, believe me, but i guess you can either forget all about them, or have faith that things will turn out the way they are suppossed to - BUT please remember to live your life to its fullest in the interim - NEVER change your plans, or put your life on hold for another person, cause chances are, they aren't doing that for you, and you will be missing out on the journey. Good Luck, fellow traveller!

yes as u would want what is best for that person and if it meant setting them free then be it.
it is a relationship tester and if the person does end up coming back into your life then the relationship will last : )!
absence makes the heart grow fonder : )!
and i am a true believer of destiny and fate...god has already predetermined what happens in our lives and if it was meant to be, it will be : )!

Not really. Let's say I partially support it. But only partially.
Basically, what that saying means is that you should not act against the will of the ones you love and that the fact that you give them the freedom to do whatever they want is your proof of love.
But just think about it. Let's suppose one of your friends/lovers/relatives wants to do something. And you know that that thing could have a major negativ influence over their lives. Is it okay to let them act as they wish, although we know that the freedom we give them might hurt them greatly?
So, no, I don't believe in that saying. I think the highest proof of love and loyalty is doing what you know is best for the ones you care about, especially when they blame you for not treating them right. Being able to maintain your love and loyalty intact in those special circumstances when your loved ones make you choose between their own wishes and what you know is right for them is the highest evidence of love.

I dislike it in some ways because i think in a decent relationship people do not feel the need for proof, validation or manipulative tests of love and loyalty.
Doing something like this is no substitute for good communication, honesty and the trust that both generate. If you have this holy trinity of qualities in your relationship then it will weather most storms.

Yes - If you unshackle someone and they don't run away, then (other than their suffering from stockholm syndrome), the chances are that they actually want to be with you. If on the other hand you are excessively clingy possessive and jealous, that can drive your partner away. I guess Ecatrich needs to guard herself from putting all her eggs in one basket again. Nobody is utterly dependable - it's not just men sweetheart...xxx

Being in love is a most happy occassion but not procession. Love become so hurt when you can't have it. So only when you know how to let go, and when it can back to you, then it's true love.

Well, sort of. I believe that if you love someone you give them as much freedom as they want. If they also love you, they won't want to stray too far from you.
Now as far as cats go, if you give them freedom, they MIGHT come back home to you when they feel like it or they get hungry.
so it all depends on what you're talking about

no, i think a man that wanted to have his cake and eat it to came up with that phrase. Why would you let go of something you love and where would it go if you did? love is a feeling, not a bird.
