I think whoever said it doesn't understand what prayer actually is about

I like it a lot :)
I like the humor and somewhat agree with it as well.
The original quote it was taken from is, "Give a man a fish and you'll feed him for a day. Give him a job and you'll feed him forever."
I like and agree with that also.
However the dogma of religion does nothing to help a starving man. Faith may help at times. As in faith that his situation will improve can give some comfort, until it actually does at times. Whether he attributes the coming solution to God or not isn't what I mean by dogma ether.
Religious dogma generally comes from some zealot trying to sell him on the idea that his situation will improve, not in his believing in it.

How about,
"Give a man a fish, and you'll feed him for a day; give him a religion, and he'll pray before he goes fishing."

I'm not religious, but I really don't think any religious person is so naive as to think deities will provide for them without effort on their part.

That quote is eally inspiring you know.. if you really understand what is its true meaning..I have this way of revising that quote.

That quote means you will never teach a man to survive if you will keep helping him and he will just depend on you. Or i will just say it this way, for example.. You are a rich man, and you want to help a poor community and you plan to conduct a relief drive( giving boxes with foods, clothes,) for that community. And you conducted that relief operation. And what is the outcome, yes, you had helped them, and gave them food, but for how long? until the supply that you gave lasts? and after that what comes next, they will just wait for your next supply.. but if you plan to give them a livelihood project. In that way, you will help them to survive through this living, and not depending to your supply. Got my point?
the fish from the quote is the supply you gave to the poor coomunity and the religion is the livelihood project .

It was just a little illustration for that quote..for you to understand the meaning of the quote.. So isnt it inspiring?
Like a religion, You have to give the people who are striving now a faith, something that they will believe in. Just like my illustration, the livelihood. From that livelihood, this community starts to believe for their survival like faith for a religion.

hope this could help also others to like this quote, personally i love this quote..

"Give a man a fish, and you'll feed him for a day; give him a religion, and he'll fish for you."

I have to say that quote demonstrates the limitations of the human mind to be considerate of the theologies on this planet and the true power of prayer that can help a starving man keep hope vs. a person with no hope at all but dispair. I hope most atheist don't think like you - how sad :(.

Here’s one last trick to reduce your risk of heart disease and boost your immune system – it’s as simple as: Prayer or meditation. Saying a prayer, or simply repeating a word or phrase that you find relaxing, almost instantly lowers your blood pressure, heart and breathing rates. It also triggers the production of calming brain waves, which help boost your immune system. So how long do you have to pray or meditate? The Mind Body Medical Institute in Boston says 10 minutes a day will reduce your risk of heart disease by 20%.

Wrong everyone I work with is a Christian and we work for a living. I don't know where you live but look around you will find many working there. Personally I have never heard of an Atheist Mission or feed the hungry program. Has anyone else? All I have ever heard about or read about are Christian ones.
