Our girls (6 & 2) still sleep with us as well. Thank goodness our room is big enough for a king, twin, and toddler beds! We tried to move the oldest out last year when she started school, but none of us were getting any sleep, so we let her move back in. We figure when she is ready, she'll ask to be in her own room. I have a feeling it will be this year, as she socializes more and sees other kids in their own rooms.
I don't think there is anything wrong with having your kids in your room with you. What ever works for your family, works. As long as your kids are well adjusted, whats the problem?
To the poster who mentioned about it cutting into your sex life -- who says you can ONLY have sex in your bedroom? Or ONLY in a bed, for that matter!
Hang in there Mom -- it's a tough, judgemental world out there. At least there is a safe, warm, loving place within your home they can go to.

I have a 7 and 4 year old. The only reason we seperated them is becuase the 4 year old was waking up soooo early in the morning and waking the older. I wanted her to sleep a little longer and we were no longer as cranky during the day. Seperate them when you are comfortable with it as long as there are no other reasons. Especially if the boys are happy in the same room together and get along.

Any time you are ready. Any time they are ready. Simple as that. Some parents choose to keep their kids, not only in their room, but in what is called a family bed. You can set up the boys in the room together or keep the 2 y/o with you. If you think the room too far away, video/audio or just audio monitors can be set up for yours and his peace of mind.

both my children have had their own room since birth(3yrs and 1 yr) . i would just leave my door open and had one of those monitors handy just in case i was really sleepy. my husband and i wanted them to be a little more indpendant than most kids are. most children sleep with their parents, which is fine, but its harder for parents to let go than children. children are at still a very young age that they are still learning, so they will learn to adjust to their very own room. (i even had a day bed in my newborns' room so i could sleep in their room, and once they got used to sleeping thru the night, i just made my way out.)your home should be a safe place to be. so there is nothing they should be afraid of that you could'nt explain to them in an age appropriate way .

At 5 your oldest should definitely be in his own room. By this I am not saying he can't share with his brother, but not with mommy. He is old enough to come get you if he needs something. I think you should put both boys in the other bedroom, you can always get a monitor if you are concerned about hearing them.

I think it's wonderful that your kids still sleep in your room and your reason is a good, solid one.
You are being totally appropriate and normal, although people in this society view normal human attachment and appropriate care of children as somehow sick.
For us, it wasn't until after age 6 that our oldest wanted his own room, and even then, it was with his youngest sleeping with him and us reading stories until they fell asleep.
Think caveman - you know parents didn't plop their little kids down in one part of the cave and go sleep in another. Humans evolved to sleep near each other for safety and ease of nursing and comfort. It's a good thing, not a bad thing.

My girl slept in her own room by herself since she was 1 1/2. That was when I moved into a house big enough for her to have her own room. I would have had her in her own room earlier then that if I could have. They will find you if they need you. Get a monitor if your scared, but trust me they will find your room just fine when they need you. Put night lights in the hall leading to your room, and don't close your door at night.

Baby monitors. Mine went into their own rooms at age 2. Get a couple of baby monitors. They should get used to being in their own rooms. Plus if your like me you'll be up and down at different times to check on them anyway :)

I think that your 5 year old should be in his own room. Keep the two year old with you if you like. See how it goes, dont be afraid to give it a try. Good luck.
