I'm going to Bangkok to shop and I've only got 2 days to see everything! Where is the best place to go to maximise the time that I have there?

Hi, will you be there over the weekend? The Chatuchak Weekend Market will be a must for you. Thousands of shops in one place. Place starts opening on Fridays in the afternoon when the storeowners start preparing to open for the weekend crowd. So if you are in Bangkok during weekend, make a point to visit there. One day may not be enough. Cause nearby in other shopping plazas and markets are other shops that are open 7-days a week so you will need plenty of time there. Maybe you can plan for a re-visit.

Clothes, you must head for the Pratunam wholesale centre. This place has reasonable quality goods. But if you want something better, head for the shops in nearby hotels and shopping centres. Some carry factory overruns from export and are sold at low price compared to what you will pay outside. And these are good quality stuff. So not just the wholesale centre, but also nearby buildings, which will include the Pratunam Centre that someone else mention.

Suan Lum Night Bazaar is a modern Chatuchak market at night. Plenty of shops with a more modern theme than Chatuchak. Only opens from evening till about 11pm. And a big place to go through too.

The branded shops will be around MahBoon Khrong Centre. This mall has 2 departmental stores plus hundreds of shops, selling practically everything. Higher end goods can be found across the road in Siam Paragon Mall and Siam Discovery Centre, And for unique clothing items, across is Siam Square with hundres of small shops with their own style items for sale.

There are a few departmental stores along Sukhumvit Road. Central Chidlom, E Emporium and a few others as you can see if you take the Skytrain.

Over the corner from there will be the Central World Plaza, Zen Plaza, Isetan, and others that I just cannot recall now. Maybe later the names will come back.

So, I think you can only skim some during your 2 days and go back pretty soon to cover the rest.

Oh, did I mention other night markets in Bangkok too?

In Siloam, there's a lot of malls. Nice ones are Siam Paragon, Emporium. if you want to shop with budget, got to MBK. There are street with shops: soi 1, soi 2 , soi 3 road. It's all in that area. You probably need more than 2 days to finish. haha. They open from 10 or 11 am.
The night market is awesome, Suan Lum. It's very big. You'll hurt your feet from all those walking, so wear comfortable. Happy shopping.

if you only got two days, i recommend

Platinum Shopping Mall (MUST GO)
Wholesale mall with wholesale price (you will see two price tags, the lower of the two is the price you pay so long you buy three items of the same)

huge shopping centre with full aircon. plus a large food court

Suan Lum
as Akai suggested, night market that you should go
lots of shops with lots of restaurants at reasonable prices.

MBK and Tokyu (just next to each other but of cos MBK is the local version so alot cheaper)
shopping centre that is of reasonable prices

oh i miss bangkok again...
