I don't want to delete the application - I just don't want the icon in the system tray, it appears automatically. I can remove it for that seesion, but after rebooting it shows up again.

it is easy
goto the run On Start Menu
and type MSCONFIG
and go to the Start UP tab
and find this text "Ypager"
and if checked you must false this ammount (Disable It)
and reboot your system
ok

I dont know if this will work with other OS, mine is XP.... RIght click on System Tray or Task Bar .. Select Properties... Check the Hide Inactive Icons then click Customize button, Select the Yahoo Messenger Icon and Select always Hide form the drop the down list box CLick OK Twice..

to remove it permamnently, right click your taskbar. a new window will appear. Under the taskbar tab click customize and then select the YM icon and choose always hide.

click your start button and click on run and then type msconfig, click on okay, click on system tab and uncheck what it is you don't want showing on your system tray.
