Discovery is nothing but finding out an existing thing for first time.
e.g- Discovery of America by Columbus.
Invention is nothing but creation of a new product based on on some idea and thoughts.
e.g - Invention of aeroplane by wright brothers

Discovery is what that already exist in this Universe and when it comes in Knowledge of others it becomes a discovery.
Invention when a whole new thing(which has no existence before) is invented or say given birth in this Universe....

Actually,
Discover:- to find out or understand something that existed earlier. Eg: the discovery of India(for the westerners) or the discovery of 'Far Infrared' by Humphrey in 1993. Both of them existed even before they were discovered.
Invent:- to build something anew. Something that never existed before. Eg:-invention of air plane by the Wright Brothers and the invention of T.V.

Invention is inventing something new, the thing that has no existence so far.
where as discovering is searching and finding the hidden things, the things which exist but have not yet explored and exposed to human world.

Invention is something that you create. Discovery is a fact or thing someone finds out about, when it was not known about before.

invention defines about the creation of something totally new which was not present earlier.On the other hand discoveries goes to searching something hidden somewhere.

To invent / produce / research a new thing/formula for the first time.
To discover already existing thing on this earth or space. It's already there. One has just withdrawn curtains from that.

- You can only discover something if it already exists but not yet found/discovered.
- Invention is basically creating something that has not existed in the world yet.
