This is an "argumentative" question !!!
what kind of an answer do you expect ? Every one will tell you that his / her Language is the best, and if not the best it should be placed as second best.
None of the answers were given upon certain facts, i.e : Languages differ from each other by many forms ; history, grammar, pronunciation, writing .....etc.
Therefore, it is not enough to say that is Language or that Language is widely spoken to be world's best, for it can be easy to speak, and very poor in grammar, and that may not effect us now, but it will effect many generations to come in the future.

Hey! Any language where the word for chicken is 'kipper' (dutch)gets a good leg up.
I'm biased because my first language is English, but I have some Greek and enjoy this ancient language at the heart of all that is 'Europe'.

I don't think your term, BEST fits for what you are asking for. As a linguist I could say that there is no such thing a best or worst language. All are equal as long as it can use as communication. But if you're asking the second widely used it is Spanish. The language which is second to the most number of speaker is the Hindustani, english is just the third one. my source is TOP ten of everything.

I like English best because I can understand it. It's also the language of Shakespeare and so varied. Words in English come from every part of the world. Sure, it's complicated, but it's so versatile.
As for second best, I go for Italian. I cry like a child without candy when I hear certain parts of anything Puccini. And it's sooo sexy. Imagine, someone softly whispering Italian nothings in your ear... yum.

I'm Dutch and trust me, Dutch sucks! Have you ever tried to be romantic in Dutch? It's simply impossible. Even the Dutch word for 'darling' ('schat') sounds like your coughing up bile and spitting it in your darling's face!
