All cats will constantley shed. Short hairs less often if you give them a brushing about once a week. Long haired cats have a double coat, that's why they seem to have a lot of it. Try a double coat comb, like for dogs, it gets both layers at the same time. It wont get rid of all of it but it will cut it down a great deal of it. Cat hair on furniture and clothing, try that red lint brush and "Static Guard" That combination works Fantastic!

1) cats shed - get a good vacuum cleaner
2) talk to your vet - some skin conditions make the cat shed extra much
3) feed a good food: (e.g. Iams, Eukanuba, Hill's, Royal Canine - or ask your vet) as these help the coat be as good as possible
4) you might want to supplement the food with EFA oil (ask at the vet's) Efa oil is an essential oil - if the cat gets too little of that the coat will not be as good as it can be
5) don't bathe (the cat) too often - it drys out the fur. And use a special cat's shampoo, not human stuff. Perfumefree if possible
6) use a brush (sometimes rubber brushes are best) as much as you want - the hair collected in the brush does not fall everywhere else. For longhaired breeds a special brush or comb can be a help.
7)a *dry* thin sponge can help to remove hair from clothes
8) cats shed hair...so does every one else...

I have a chinchilla cat who sheds hair all over .. I comb her twice a day but still yes .. that is so annoying
I found a solution .. I bought a tape brush for the clothes .. cat hair will simply stick on it and when the layer is full of hair just peel it off and a new layer is there to use
for the furniture .. there is a special brush that is made up of cloth type that atracts hair like magnet ..
look for those you'll find them really helpful

Usually cats shed more in the summer than the winter, so this will get easier. Good for you combing him, it's good for him and helps with bonding too, but don't bathe him too much or you will dry out his skin.
If he is shedding an awful lot he may be sick, so take him to the vet for a check up.
If you are worried about the hairs on your furniture, just wipe off with a damp cloth or sellotape wrapped around your hand (sticky side out).
Remember you are shedding hair on a daily basis too, do you hear the cat complaining about it?

Don't bathe too often! It can aggravate the shedding.
For your cat: brush daily with a brush made especially for cats, but be gentle! Cats have sensitive skin.
For your clothes and furniture: Your best friend is one of those roller-sticky taped devices that pick up the cat hair and any lint you may have on clothing or furniture. Another easy solution is to tear off 6" to 12" pieces of masking tape, rub it on the clothing or furniture and lift off the cat hair.
Hope these help you out!

Brush, not comb. A brush will pull a lot of it out. Natural bristled brush work best. But, as long as you have a cat, you will have shed hair. Get used to it or deep 6 kitty.

Plucking (tweezing), Shaving, Depilatory creams and Waxing are temporary hair removal methods.
Waxing usually lasts for 3 weeks, but it is painful.
Electrolysis and laser hair removal are "permanent" hair removal methods but are expensive and you have to find a trained professional, otherwise your skin could be damaged.

They make a shampoo specially for that ... you can go to Walmart or any pet store and get it. I got it for my cat and it worked really well. It's in a clear bottle with a gold top.
